The Drifter — Restaurant in Ghent

My wife and I are visiting from San Francisco. We are wearing matching tiki shirt and dress. There is one guest seated in the middle of the bar. The bartender has set up 2 large cauldrons at the far end of the bar and appears to be milk clarifying something. Strange that he is doing this in the front of guests during a shift, but OK. So we start to sit at the near end of the bar, when we notice that our custom designed home bar swizzle stick is encased in resin in the bar top! How amazing is that?!?! How in the world they got their hands on our swizzle is a mystery for the ages!! It's "Krollando's Hideaway" if you want to remove it after this review. We excitedly bring this to the bartenders attention. And all he says is that he was going to work in that area of the bar top, implying we shouldn't sit there. Really? You've got your science experiment taking up space at the far end and you are planning to do some other bit of maintenance at this end? Fine, we slide over toward the other guest in the middle. But hello! You completely failed to acknowledge the crazy circumstance that you made something I designed for our home bar a permanent part of your bar, and all you can say is don't sit there? Everyone is entitled to a bad day, but if you work in the service industry as I do (yea, no surprise I tend bar), you should just give your shift to someone else who can manage to power through and give half an ounce of service and connection to your guests. I'm speaking to fellow tiki-phile travelers here when I say drinks were OK, their custom mug is on the cheesy side, decor is meh, and service was obviously terrible. As always, your mileage may vary....

Local muy bonito, con un ambiente muy tranquilo. Demasiado. Hemos ido para fin de año y la fiesta brilla por su ausencia. Luego se aprecia mucha diferencia de trato entre los belgas y los extranjeros... los últimos para ser atendidos, etc ... No puedo decir que el sitio esté muy mal o sea un desastre, pero no volveré. He visto que respondéis a mi reseña diciendo que soy arrogante, que puse el teléfono a todo volumen, que pedía las copas individualmente y no agrupadas, etc... siento decirte que son EXCUSAS de alguien que NO sabe encajar las críticas. Deberías tomártelas en modo constructivo, y no atacar a quien las escribe. Cada uno tenemos nuestra propia percepción de las experiencias que vivimos, y estoy seguro de que preparasteis la velada con mucho cariño y con la mejor intención de satisfacer a vuestros clientes, pero sinceramente, NO estáis preparados para ofrecer cenas. Y obviamente menos aún la de Fin de Año.

Escogimos vuestra oferta no porque fuese barata, sino porque esperábamos vivir una cena de fin de año "diferente", en un ambiente "hawiano". Y lo fue, fue una experiencia diferente, concretamente, DECEPCIONANTE.

Insisto, a modo constructivo: El coctel de bienvenida, muy bien. La actitud de la camarera delgada (la mayor), muy bien, pero la joven y el barman, actitud incorrecta, muy secos y nada empáticos. Ambiente MUY MAL. Seria la correcta para estar leyéndose un libro mientras se toma un coctel relajadamente cualquier otro día del año, pero en fin de año, por favor, aquello parecía un velatorio. La fiesta brilló por su ausencia. Ah, y estaría bien no hacer publicidad engañosa y avisar de que a la 1h de la noche, se cierra el local. Los cocteles, mal también. Muy similares y sin posibilidad de escoger (casi daba igual pedir uno u otro). Supongo que tenéis un menú mas amplio, pero los incluidos en la cena, hermanos gemelos.... La organización a nivel de la cena, FATAL. Hay varias cosas que no llegamos ni a probar porque cada vez que íbamos al buffet, ya no habían. Se reponía la comida muy de tarde en tarde y como era escasa, habían cosas que "volaban", asi que como digo, hubieron cosas que ni probamos. De ahí que también se pidieran las copas continuamente, porque los tiempos entre reposiciones eran excesivos. Entre el coctel de bienvenida y la comida pasaron 2 horas... Y el champan, por favor invertid un poco de dinero en poner algo decente. Ese que pusisteis era imbebible, así que ya lo veríais al recoger porque dejamos las copas tal cual las servisteis quitando el sorbo inicial con el que comprobamos su NULA calidad...

Como digo al principio, el local está bien, y seguramente como cockteleria puede mejorar mucho lo que vimos en esta cena, pero lo que es COMIDA, dejadlo, NO es lo vuestro, de verdad. Mejor dedicaos a servir cockteles, mejorar la actitud con los clientes, y si por error, pensáis volver a organizar una cena de Fin de Año, aclarad que cerráis a la 1, y pensad en hacer algo más animado y alegre como corresponde a ese día, que no un día...
