There’s a moment at Taj Mahal Palace when you think, “This might just work.” The menu is confident, the staff are warm and sharply attentive, and the portion sizes are generous — one dish can comfortably feed a hungry diner. But as the meal unfolds, early optimism slowly dissolves into a sugary haze.
For someone with a palate shaped by Indian kitchens — where spice doesn’t just exist but dances — the food here felt oddly muted. It wasn’t just a dish or two. There’s a saccharine undertone running through much of the meal.
Still, credit where it’s due: the service is stellar. The staff are genuinely pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. It’s the sort of thing that makes you want to like the place more than you actually do.
But then comes the question of value. It must deliver — not just in quantity (which it does), but in flavour, finesse, and experience. And that’s where Taj Mahal Palace falls short. It’s not a bad meal. It’s just not a memorable one — and for this price, that’s a problem.
Taj Mahal Palace offers a glimpse of something better. But until the kitchen finds its way back to balance, it will remain an almost-place — almost luxurious, almost flavourful,...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience at Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant in Gent! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome – warm, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. The service was smooth and efficient, and they were more than happy to explain dishes and make recommendations based on our preferences.
Now the food – simply outstanding! Every dish we ordered was packed with authentic flavor and beautifully presented. The butter chicken was rich and creamy, the lamb rogan josh was perfectly spiced, and the naan was fresh, warm, and fluffy. We also tried the vegetarian samosas and daal makhani, both of which were delicious.
Portion sizes were generous – we left feeling more than satisfied, and even had some leftovers to take home. As for the price, it was very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food we received. Great value for money.
Highly recommend this place if you're looking for authentic Indian cuisine in Gent. We'll definitely be...
Read moreI recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at this hidden gem of an Indian-Nepali fusion restaurant, and I can confidently say it was one of the most flavorful, heartwarming meals I’ve had in a long time.
From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting—traditional touches from both Indian and Nepali culture, soft music in the background, and the comforting aroma of spices in the air set the perfect tone.
What really stood out, though, was the attention to detail and care from the staff. The service was warm, genuine, and never rushed. Our server took the time to explain each dish and share a bit about their cultural significance, which added a lovely personal touch to the whole experience.
Whether you’re a fan of Indian cuisine, curious about Nepali flavors, or just someone who appreciates good food made with love—this place is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back soon to try more...
