We made a reservation August 5th by phone for Saturday, 23 August at noon for the 90th birthday celebration of my mother. Updated the reservation 2 weeks later to update the number of people. On both occasions, the reservation was confirmed, no mention of the restaurant being closed for lunch on Saturdays. We have used this restaurant the previous two years to celebrate and made the reservation by phone.
On August 23rd, we picked up my mother from her care home, other guests took the train or cycled to the location. Upon arrival, one of the guests told me the restaurant was closed for lunch. A lady from the Klimop came to talk to us, called her manager: no sign of a reservation. The location is only open for hotel guests (who we could see having lunch inside).
My mother had to sit down. It was hot. We had to quickly improvise while the Klimop lady was trying to see whose fault it was, trying to blame us for the error. Yes, it was probably on the website, but someone at the Klimop took our reservation TWICE.
I asked simply: I don't care about all the liability & guilt bla bla bla, today is my mother's birthday, can you can serve us or not?? "No". Ok then.
We went to ask the first restaurant next door who were super friendly and made us very welcome, even without reservations, a group of 8, short on kitchen staff. We had a lovely time. Thank you to la Royale!
So far, we haven't heard anything from the Klimop. Guess where we'll be going next year (wishing my mother many more years!)....
UPDATE: FINALLYL an apology from the restaurant below. They had our contact information and could easily have contacted my brother who had made the reservation. It's easy to post to rectify the review. Not so easy to apologize in person. So a student took our reservation TWICE? Mmm. I could have given you 1...
Read moreHad a horrible experience here with the rudest manager I've ever seen. Would give zero stars if possible. We came in unsure of whether we wanted food and ordered some drinks while looking at the menu. We asked for some fries, waitress said it was no problem then the manager came out and said it was not possible. To get fries. In a restaurant that clearly serves them. We had asked for some more drinks but he obviously told the waitress not to bring them to us and instead came out with the bill and didn't even ask us to pay, just stood over us waiting for us to pay. We hadn't even finished our first drinks and he clearly just wanted us to leave. We asked him directly, do you want us to leave, to which he replied no while continuing to hover over us. Truly awful experience that I would hate anyone...
Read moreIt is not possible to give a big 0!!! The food was good and the restaurant was cozy and beautiful but the service was awful. The little man was very unfriendly and did not want to help us because he could not speak english and we waited a long time for someone to help us. Every time this man came to our table it felt unpleasant. we spoke to another member of staff and he was going to pass it on but we don't know if this was really the case but our second visit was ruined by this man unfortunately! I don't know what his problem was, but he should be happy that an employer gives this man a job, but hopefully not for long because this man little Turkish guy doesn't fit in...
