Mykene — Restaurant in Leuven

Straight up racist! I’m in Leuven on business for just a few days and my girlfriend and I decided to try some real Belgian dishes, so we picked this place. We walked in to this place with big smiles on our faces because we had been just talking about how nice the people of Lueven had been so far. Funny thing is that this a huge restaurant, but literally empty when all restaurants around them were packed. So you would think they’d wanna welcome all patrons. The host was an old white dude; literally looked us up and down and said “yes?” when we walked in. We are dressed up for that night, so I know his look wasn’t for any dress-code “violation” bs. I asked for a table for two. He looked around THE EMPTY dining room and took us around to a tiny room which appeared to be their little party room. Didn’t say a word and walked away! We sat for like 5 minutes (reminder, the place was empty and the waiters were just chilling by the kitchen). A waiter showed up and left some bread and butter on the table and walked away. While we were sitting, another couple walked in; the same host supper nicely greeted them, took their coats and sat them in the main area. About 8 minutes had passed by since the bread guy had showed up but no waiter yet, not even to ask for drinks or to bring water. BUT GUESS WHAT, the other couple that were just seated were already drinking their cocktails. Oh yeah, should I even mention that they were white. So we got up and walked out. When we were walking out, I told the 5 waiters that were just standing there that this was a terrible experience and that we had been sitting in that little back room for almost 15 minutes with no service. The dude said “well I brought you bread” and just watched us walk out without even trying to apologize or anything. So, we took our money and spent it somewhere else. Enjoy going out...

Although it was my third times booking this restaurant, I just realize that its service is very discriminated and rude against foreigners. The waitress or waiter don't speak basic English and show how rude they are. For instance, when I asked the wine suggestions of the restaurant, a waitress replied impersonally "I don't know about wine, you can choose from the menu!"; when I asked about lamb, she cannot understand it, so I have to open English-Dutch dictionary to show what it does mean. This time, they forgot to deliver a main course to one member of my family, But what they reacted to the situation makes me believe that they discriminated against us. A man, looking like a manager, was absolutely rude when he said loudly and arguably that "I correct the mistake, and this is the shrimp you ordered, it's there, it's quick!". I felt I cannot bring my family here and spend money for this ugly and rude service. The food was very basic in taste and cooking. I suggest not to order beefsteak because it is very dry, hard and tasteless. The salad is a disaster. It looks like they catch all of those things from fridge to the dish. No idea what happened here, but here is the story.

Arrived at the restaurant and waited at the door (as wanted to sit on the terrace)…to ask which table that was available (as they had many of them). Btw…should have then understood the situation…

After 5 minutes nothing…so I had to walk inside and ask if any table was available (why having a terrace???)

Then I ordered the food and drink…all fine and served…However, if you order mussels in Leuven/Belgium, which is normal in this country, you expect (like any other restaurants) that thay come and clean up the empty shells…here, not present, as they did not care about the people on the terrace at all. (see picture).

Ohhh…I forgot to say…as my drink got empty, I could not order any new one, as no one came outside to ask…(waited 20 min), so the solution was to call the restaurant from the terrace and make the order.

Maybe it was new people at work…but made the whole experience really bad…Think they forgot they have people sitting outside.
