This is one of the Japanese restaurant in Muntstraat (close to Tiensestraat). It's small but cozy and they have a very nice menu lists. It was very busy when I went with my boyfriend and unfortunately there were no seats available. So we decided to have take away since the weather was very nice.
---review 2 years ago----- When you want some take away, you will just need to tell them (you will see the chefs busy making sushi for their customers and next to it there is a cash desk). Not to mention, they are very friendly and greet you with warm smiles. Afterwards, the waiter will give you the menu card with lists of dishes and after you have decided, you can just order it. However the entrance to cash desk has a small spaces so when people want to pass through, make sure to give them spaces. After all you will be waiting there but of course you can ask them if you can come back later so you don't have to waste your time waiting.
I think I got my food after 30 min or 40 min and we went to eat at Laduzeplein which was very nice. It's a good thing that you can take away when the restaurant is very busy and the location of restaurant is very ideal (nearby the city park and it's center of Leuven)! I am glad that I order my sushi-set from this restaurant because it was just tasty and fantastic! So I will definitely go back there when if I visit Leuven again.
---- review October 2020--- My first time dining at Sakura (time of Corona). It was last minute plan and we were not able to make any reservation before arriving there (as it was last minute plan). We were glad about getting a seat but it was right next to the entrance. That was not a problem (besides people forgetting to close the door since there are a lot of orders for take-away). But what I realize was the restaurant itself was very simple and didn't really give the "restaurant" feeling which was ashame especially when you go to restaurant (even the main dining hall are decorated very plain and very limited paintings hanged on the wall). My favourite part of the restaurant will be the area were chefs are working as it's definitely feel authentic.
Other then that, there are nothing about the restaurant itself. The waitress is very friendly and the chefs are attentive since when they noticed that we are waiting for the waitress so he told her about it.
The dishes itselfs are very fresh and delicious. Of course, the foods always have been amazing here so you can imagine why it's so populair epsecially when it comes to take out!
If you want to dine at Sakura then I recommend making a reservation so you won't be placed next to the entrance. It's very corona-proof as in there are enough social distancing...

Got here with colleagues while showing them my home town. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. One of my colleagues is dairy intolerant and was expertly guided by the waitress in what was possible to order and rolls were made especially for her. We ordered starters as well as sushi and sashimi combinations and these were great tasting and plentiful. The bill for 3 of us came to just over 100 euro, including drinks, making it great value as well. We'll come here...

It was clear this was authentic Japanese cuisine. The service was also fantastic - friendly and attentive staff made the whole experience enjoyable. The restaurant itself was cozy and inviting, creating a great atmosphere for our meal. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend...
