Our first stop in Belize was Las Palapas on the beautiful island of Caye Caulker—and it absolutely set the tone for the trip. With the island motto being “Go Slow,” this was the perfect place to kick back, soak in the ocean breeze, and enjoy some incredible food.
🍛 Curry Seafood – 8/10 The standout dish of the night. Locally sourced shrimp and fish were simmered in a rich coconut curry with onions and peppers, served alongside fragrant coconut cilantro rice, perfectly grilled vegetables, and ripe plantains. The flavors were bold, fresh, and totally comforting—Belizean home-cooking at its finest.
🍤🥩 Reef & Beef – 8/10 Shrimp sautéed in garlic butter paired with a juicy, grilled beef tenderloin—this was a satisfying combo for surf & turf lovers. The grilled veggies and creamy mashed potatoes rounded out the plate beautifully.
🍌 Caramelized Plantains – 8/10 Sweet, gooey, and golden perfection. A simple dessert done very well. It hit the spot after the spice of the curry. Loved the cinnamon sticks!
🍹 Cocktails – Fruity, refreshing, and exactly what you want on a tropical island.
💰 Prices were very reasonable (listed in Belizean dollars, so divide by 2 for USD). Most entrees came out to ~$20-30 USD for good portions and local seafood.
🌴 Ambiance – 8/10 A lovely sit-down spot perfect for family dinners or a relaxed meal with friends. Warm service and a chill Caye Caulker vibe made it even better.
Final Verdict: 8/10 overall – Highly recommend if you're looking to dive into authentic Belizean flavors in a relaxed,...
Read moreWe first discovered Las Palapas when we were walking by and decided to enjoy a late lunch. The service is excellent. Our server was extremely attentive. Recommended a couple of delicious cocktails. For our entrees my husband enjoyed the grilled snapper w coconut rice special - The cook on the snapper was perfection and the coconut rice absolutely delicious!. I had to jerk chicken that had the nicest bite and was served with vegetables... Also truly delicious. A couple of days later we returned for dinner, at which time I enjoyed the pork chop with tamarind sauce, grilled veggies and mashed potato whilst my husband delighted in the baby back ribs also served with veggies and mashed potatoes.. everything is plated beautifully and the food expertly prepared. We again enjoyed recommended cocktails and some wine. The service was flawless and we would return again and again on future visits to Caye Caulker. The only critique we would give management is to have additional fans in place as it is very difficult to find a cool corner that is well ventilated. As a side note, I did use the ladies room which is outside of the restaurant and what I expected might look more like an outhouse was the exact opposite. It was lovely, clean and well stocked and completely unexpected. Just one more reason to give the highest recommendations to...
Read moreNice restaurant (bring bug repellent, flies and mosquito) Solid food. We tried 2 appetizers: Shirmp tostones & Cheese stick . They were both excellent. We had 4 a entrees: fish of the day (Gruber, white coconut rice, plantain), Baby back ribs, Chicken Rollitos de pechuga al chipotle, and Bacon wraps fillet mingon. They were all pretty solid, but the fillet mignon and baby back ribs were out favorited. We tried two desserts: Cheesecake and Caramelized plaintain. Cheesecake was good, it tasted like typical cheese cake I had tasted in America. Saying that because I have tasted cheese cake on Belize but kinda not like typical cheese cake, but like moose and not salty. I had higher hopes with the cramamelized plantain since we love plantain and it consider local fruit in Belize, but I didn't like that fish, the plantain has become too sweet and soggy with the cinnamon sugar, I also don't like cinnamon, and the icecream was meh. I wish they can just simply fried plantains and served with icecream. The fried plantains are as good by itself so need additional sugar or more...
