Easy booking though WhatsApp. I had their 6 course tasting menu that comes paired with cocktails/wine. Today (February 6) was the first day of this menu- they switch it up about every month. Courses: 1- empanada de mais morado con paiche (fishy taste), bolita de choclo relleno con queso (very good), cocktail- singani sour with ají (very good, my favorite) 2- heritage grain bread (like sourdough) with roasted veggies (a little spice and vinegar taste), pate de pollo (ok- kind of bland), butter chimichurri (tastes herbal) 3- vegetables- mini Brussels sprouts, peas, beans, fava beans in a creamy, cheesy sauce (with cured egg yolk). Really good, smoky & creamy, paired with a foamy shot of Bolivian leche de Tigre- mix of milks, tasted sweet, creamy, coconutty and alcohol heavy 4- pumpkin noodles with a creamy sauce- thyme & tomatoes . A shot of local Andean style gin with floral tasting fruit, topped with huacatay oil. Gin was very, very smooth- not noticeable at all 5- rainbow trout from lake Titicaca, puréed sweet potato, baby greens, huacatay emulsion. A very sweet, crisp, sparkling light white wine called Arenjuez from Bolivia- taste notes of honey. 6- yucca and cheese purée, roasted broccoli and cauliflower, dehydrated roasted llama (like jerky but drier), a smoky red pepper sauce, tomatoes, carrots, beets, sweet potato chips. Chicha morada with Amazon style gin (more herbal)- very smooth. Dessert 1- guava macaron with balsamic reduction. Bumpy, crunchy, no soft middle. Guava cream was a light whipped texture, sweet, slight guava taste. Balsamic did not overpower. Bolivian Vodka with tea- smooth but tea had strong floral taste. Dessert 2- choclo ice cream (more like an ice- hard sphere but creamy and sweet), burnt corn butter (didn’t like it paired with dessert), sugar cane honey (sweet and smoky). Venezuelan Añejo rum with spiced infused dried peaches. Nice, balanced flavor (but definitely tastes like aged rum which is not my thing) Great food! Attentive service- a chef and the bartender explain every course. Not a rushed pace, almost 2 hours. The bill was cheap for the type of dining experience . $32 usd...
Read moreIf you're a vegetarian, I wouldn't recommend.
Although I did enjoy the evening overall (it was after all my first proper fine dining experience) and all the dishes tasted very good, I was disappointed with how little care was given to the vegetarian menu. Clearly it was simply the meat menu with meat substituted by a vegetable (fish by beetroot, beef by broccoli). But this is not how I imagine a balanced vegetarian meal. The function of meat cannot be reduced to just the texture -- it is also what gives the dish substance, taste and also nutritional value. That's how we were left with four main courses consisting of a bunch of (well prepared) vegetables and a (tasty) sauce. No legumes, no tofu, no seitan, no tempeh, virtually no mushrooms. I think it would be much better to have a separate vegetarian menu, where each meal would be considered as a functioning whole consisting of vegetarian ingredients. Or, without giving the vegetarian menu the appropriate attention, not to offer it at all.
Service was attentive and pleasant, with an option to be served in English (although for the drinks this was done with Google Translate). However, as we noticed seeing other tables walking out of the restaurant, forgot to serve us with the final drink. We also received a fish dish, although we explicitly said at the beginning that we want the vegetarian menu with no fish. The dish was quickly replaced with the vegetarian option though, so this is a minor nitpick.
The atmosphere was great overall and the restaurant is beautiful. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the music. I thought it was a little too loud (we sat near the speaker though) and the playlist felt quite generic and arbitrary, consisting of what I would describe as mild, mostly American, pop and disco/R&B. I would find something like traditional Bolivian music or its contemporary spin more fitting to the food, interior decorations and the general vibe of...
Read moreI went there regarding all good advises, unfortunatly the experience for me was not great for the standing, it's a good way to discover Bolivian dishes, there are several plates, the tastes are nice but nothing crazy regarding the price of 160bs, the service was slow I stayed there more than 2 hours, the nap was not clean a lot of hairs, in one dishes I even got one that probably moved from the table.. For the wines, I got the white wine when I was almost done with the fish plate, there is no indication, I don't find It normal, you should inform the client about the upcoming drink combination and serve it close from the dishes you served. On lunch I had a nice daily menus in a restaurant close by for 13bs and comparing to this one, 12 times more expensive It's not worth, I won't recommend. If you want a gastronomic like restaurant I highly recommend you el Solar, 7 dishes for 80bs, I had a better time for 2...
