Pub with much better than expected pub food

-19.049278°, -65.258420° The formal restaurant Nativa was fully booked for the next few days, so was El Solar and restaurant Bienmesabe was undergoing its next transformation into squatters’ bar, so we paid a visit to café-restaurant Florin, from Dutch owners. Florin is a combination of a bar with bar music and a bistro. Their menu appeals to every visitor and young local residents also find their way to Florin.

In April 2025, we ordered Lomo de llama steak (70Bs) medium rare with baked potatoes, champions and salad. The salad had strawberries mixed in. The llama steak was well prepared with nice texture and flavours. The quality of the food is a few levels above pub grub, but no culinary adventures here.

We are Dutch and visited Florin. But honestly we were a bit disappointed. We had the bitterballen (they were good, but preparing took a long time) and wanted saté, because the sign outside during daytime said so, but in the evening we learned that they only serve saté during lunch! When you are from the Netherlands you KNOW that we eat that for dinner as well. Also, we were the only Dutch speaking persons. You need Spanish to order. No problem, but, you know... For the rest there was no Dutch food or beer. Heineken does not count, you can get that anywhere.... So, two stars because there were two Dutch things to try (yes, I counted the Heineken, but tried a local beer). Also, next door was a practice session of some street music band. Too much noise! I waited an hour for the hamburger that I selected from Florin's expensive menu. I had to ask about it twice before it arrived. This is the second time it has happened, last time it was a forty minute wait for bruschetta!! When the burger finally came out it was something that would be served at a cheap roadstop, nowhere near what one would expect from the high price at Florin! While waiting an hour for my meal I had trouble getting staff attention for drink service even though I was sitting right opposite the register. Service and food here is terrible. Definitely not...
