I stayed here because I had friends staying here. Pros: The outdoor space is nice and a great place to spend a sunny day. And you can hand do laundry at the big sink upstairs. The kitchen is good and there’s a BBQ you can use. Some of the staff are very nice (and you’ll be practicing your Spanish as no English is spoken)||Cons: The bathrooms are awful and cramped. The mattresses in the dorms are all sunk in in the middle so you’re practically sleeping on the planks in the middle. Murder on your back. The breakfast is ok but despite signs saying it’s from 8-10 it’s rarely available before 9:15am. And it takes ages to get as it’s one woman making individual eggs for everyone. Some people get keys for the front door, other don’t, which means it’s VERY common to be woken up at all hours by people without keys ringing the doorbell over and over until someone opens the door. It’s also VERY common for them to let folks who come in on buses at 5AM into the dorm rooms. This wouldn’t be a huge issue if they didn’t walk in, turn on all the lights, and tell the potential guest about things in a normal volume voice ignoring all the people trying to sleep. There’s a staff member who is incredibly creepy, several times during my stay he’d 2 walk into my dorm room for no reason (which I had to myself a number of nights) asking who else was in there and then saying things like “you’ll be all alone in here tonight”. There’s no way to lock the dorm room doors at all. There’s no lockers for valuables and again, no way to lock the dorm room door so anyone can come in.!||The place is cheap, there’s no doubt about that. It’s near the supermarket which is nice and the street is quieter but I’d never...
Read moreYes there are better places to stay in Sucre I expect but it all depends on your budget and expectations. After staying in many different hostels in the last year this place is far from perfect but has many good qualities that made me return for a second stay after spending 10 days here over the Christmas period. So ok the toilet and shower areas are pretty small especially the toilets if you are over 6ft. If you can look past this then you will find clean and comfortable beds in the dormitory or private rooms. Security is good externally though there are no lockers in the dormitory. The kitchen is pretty well equipped with a good range of utensils and pans. A large green communal area makes for a great place to hang out on sunnier days. The hostel is also located near to a supermarket with ATMs and near the central market, great for cheap meals or buying fresh produce to cook with yourself. The selling point for me is the friendliness of the staff who try to make your staff as pleasant as possibly. At breakfast time one of the owners is always dashing around trying to ensure the guests aren't kept waiting and have enough breakfast. Though breakfast is fairly simple you don't get just a roll and jam, they often bring you seconds if you want. And all for just 35bob with your bunk in the dormitory. I've read quite a few reviews on here and other websites skating this place and I don't feel that people are being fair. Though not deserving a maximum rating for me this budget place has been better than a lot of hostels that people...
Read moreJust to be precise, the name of the hostel is currently EGIL B&B QUECHUA. Upon our arrival at midday there was no one at the reception to do check in and we had to wait for two hours. Then a guy showed up, his name is Fabian he had an unfriendly and rude attitude and unhygienic appearance, he provided no information, gave us the key and disappeared. ||During our stay we became friends with other travelers and wanted to play badminton in the garden all together and politely asked Fabian for a permission, he rudely replied that this is a public space plus not everyone wanted to play. The fact is that our group was constituted by all the people staying at that moment so we invited him to play as well. He started to act unreasonably and aggressively, insulting us “you fu*king imperialists (imperialistas de mierda). We called the owner who said to be sorry for Fabian’s behavior, he mentioned there had been many complaints but he would speak with Fabian. So he did, however it upset Fabian even more and he wouldn’t stop insulting us. The next day Fabian was acting normal and during our stay he had several episodes of unstable and unpredictable behavior, we actually think he may be on drugs. ||The place is awesome, the location is great, 4 blocks from the main square, it has a cozy garden, place for parking a vehicle, cute terrace with chairs, a kitchen that is equipped right enough to cook, and a lot of potential nevertheless the unacceptable behavior of the staff makes it impossible to enjoy 100%....
