Momo Gelato Copacabana Palace — Restaurant in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

This gelataria, Sorveteria Momo Gelato is located in the magnificent building of Copacabana Palace Hotel. The servers were morose and lacked any enthusiasm to perform their job of serving ice cream.

Payment was taken ahead of selection of the ice cream. Even though the cashier and the ice cream server were stood no more than a metre apart, for some reason you had to show your receipt to the server. I could understand this if it was a busy time but when we were there we were the only people at the counter.

We hadn’t understood that there was a different price for some of the ice cream flavours, which were their “specials”.

We paid for two tubs with three scoops, only to find out that some of the flavours we were after were only available if you paid more.

We both had one scoop of Romeo e Juliana it was slavered with fruity thick sauce

My husband also has fragola and mango, which were both refreshingly fruity.

I had pistachio persa, which was deliciously nutty and creamy. The real star of the show for me was my last selection Momo Bambino, this was a magnificent mix of vanilla, slavers of chocolate, chocolate and nuts. I went twice at Momo with my family. The first one we tried was in the Shopping da Gávea, the second one was in Copacabana. The ice cream tasted very good in both places. They offered Gelato in rare flavors (fruits I never knew existed from the north of Brazil). I only Don't give 5 stars because they do not disclaim the ingredients of their ice creams and gelatos and the staff don't have any idea about the ingredients either. On the other hand, they show which products have gluten or dairy which is very helpful. Momo also mentions that they don't use transfats and I am thankful for that. This is undoubtedly the best ice cream shop in Copacabana. Well laid out atmosphere, easy viewing of flavors, always fresh products, friendly attendants, a charm ... It is not necessary to access the Copacabana Palace hotel to enter Momo, there are two doors one small on the side and one larger on the front of the store. which give access to the air conditioned lounge for the hotter days. A good choice for a late afternoon or after-dinner dessert at one of the local restaurants is to grab a small table on the porch and admire the movement of Copacabana's waterfront.
