Very friendly receptionist and waitress, unique food tastes, unforgettable experience, noble cause!
I will start with the fact that this experience was a surprise gift for me so I was only explained what I was getting myself into 5 min prior to the event.
The receptionist that welcomed us created a sense of trust, was positive, approachable and explained everything we needed to know about the internal rules in detail.
You are leaving your jacket, bags and any lightning tool such as smartphone, lighter, smart watches etc. in a wardrobe. In advance you have chosen from the meat, fish, vegan and traditional Bulgarian food fusion sets. All food is being prepared freshly and their effort is for all of it to be consumed so no food waste is created. On a seasonal basis the meal sets are changing.
As you know, you are going into complete darkness and are being led by a visually impaired waiter/waitress. In our case Rali made sure that we are good accommodated, was attentive, friendly and professional. The 5-course meat meal was okay. I personally felt like I would have appreciated the meal more if I was actually seeing it and will try the vegan option next time for sure. Shoutout to the chief for the creative presentation and the interesting food combinations.
In terms of the experience - well, we live in a world where your phone is your best friend and sometimes replaces real people, breaks connections and steals your precious time with your loved ones. I truly appreciated spending time with my partner without looking at my phone for even a second. I was listening way more and carefully, was for the most part engaged in the conversation (excluding the moments during which I was almost falling asleep - this is how darkness affects people apparently 😄). As he described it - it is a liberating experience, indeed!
We were also challenged to draw in the darkness and were left with a very precious memory of the experience!
After you are ready with the dinner - for us it took around 2.5 hours, all dishes and their ingredients will be explained to you and shown on a tablet. Have in mind that the WC area is lightened.
I would highly encourage you to make a reservation in advance - ours was booked nearly a month prior to the event.
Overall we were very satisfied with the quality of the service and of the food! Thank you to all the...
Read moreI just came back from dinner there. I want to start with the fact that the hostess has terrible customer service skills. I told her that I have an important job and need to be made aware if my phone rings. She said okay she would let me know. I came out of the dinner to find out I had 2 missed calls from work and many emails and texts. These alerts were going off the entire time I was there and she chose to do nothing about it and told me I didn't hear anything. Then when I told her I had a lot of notifications and missed calls she replied with you didn't tell me to tell you if the phone rings. Terrible experience just based on that. Aside from that, the dishes were nothing special. The pictures they showed at the end of the plates didn't have some of the ingredients when they were actually brought out to us. Overall I am disappointed in the service of the hostess and the food in general. The waiter was a nice man named Pepe and he provided great service. There are many great restaraunts in Sofia which I frequent often, Cosmos being one of them. Save your money and go to Cosmos instead, Tenebris is a waste of money. They rely solely on the gimmick of eating in the dark. I am not impressed. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great and I would not go back. You should find a new hostess because she was not pleasant or nice to my wife and I but was nice to other people. If youre thinking of going to this place, don't. You'd be better off ordering a meal to go from Cosmos without looking at what youre getting and turning off all the lights in your house and eating, at least the food will amaze you. Tenebris did not live up to the hype and great expectations. Some of these reviews seem fake because the food really was not that great. Again, it wasn't bad, but it does not make me want to go...
Read moreThis place is WOW! I loved the experience so much that I came twice in two months (October and November). It's a completely dark restaurant and there's no "adjusting to the darkness and seeing silhouettes after a while." It's all dark, from the beginning till the end. And that's fantastic. I got to eat with my hands and enjoy the food in a completely different way. It becomes natural to touch the people you're with, especially if you want to clink your glasses in the dark! You connect with your companions better while not worrying about who else is in the restaurant; the tables are far apart, so you only hear voices but don't see or feel anyone else.
The food was something extraordinary. They have four set 5-course menus with meat, fish, vegetables, or traditional Bulgarian dishes with a twist. You can pick your preferred menu on their website and note if you have any special dietary requirements, they take everything into consideration. However, your dishes are a complete surprise! I tried the fish and meat menus, and both times I was more than pleasantly surprised. Every meal was finger-licking good - literally!
Inside, you have a dedicated host who takes care of you at all times, you just have to call their name. You only have contact with your host and the smiling lady at the reception who explains everything.
Card and cash payment options available.
Don't hesitate to make a reservation and enjoy a beautifully different experience with a glass of their homemade raspberry wine!
