I have been wanting to visit this place for quite some time now. Me and my friend just passed by it and we both just looked at each other and immediately walked towards the front door. Once you enter you see a smiling face behind the counter and a menu on the wall. After you choose what you are getting, you can head to the second floor where there are few tables to sit down and relax. As you can see from the photos there aren't many seats so don't plan to go there with many people. On the other hand, its the perfect place to just chill and have a break from your walk. We sat next to the window and just enjoyed the view of all the passing vehicles and pedestrians. And about the food you may wonder? For those who don't know, "mekitsa" is a traditional Bulgarian dish made of kneaded dough which is deep fried. I tried mekitsa with cream cheese and blueberry jam and my friend chose mekitsa with cheese and yellow cheese. And oh la la.... Delicious. Just delicious! As for beverages we got lavender syrupe and ice coffee with hazelnut flavor. The lavender syrupe.... once you take a sip its like ice tea, then you swallow it and the lavender just hits your brain cells. Its was quite an experience. I loved it! So long story short, I am going back for more. Don't hesitate and just try this place. Its...
Disrespectful and rude treatment of customers, especially between 18:00 and 19:00, 1 hour before closing and end of official working hours with CUSTOMERS: 19:00. Saturday, 11.03.23, Graf Ignatiev Street (Sofia): At 18:00 we came for two doughnuts and two teas. It was hinted to us that if there are no seats on the second floor, it would be best to take our order outside. It was cold outside and raining heavily! Although it turned out there was seating upstairs and I pointedly said the tea was for on-site rather than for take away, our drinks were poured into cardboard cups rather than ceramic. I returned the cardboard cup (thin-walled, bending in all directions from the boiling tea in it) and asked for a normal one: ceramic with a handle. We were informed that the upstairs closes at 18:30. We said we would be gone by then. At 18:20, 40 minutes before the end of working hours, the barmaid with short hair came upstairs with a broom and a shovel in her hand and started chasing people (9 people in total) that she had to clean so at 19:00 o'clock she could be already leaving her working place. The downstairs radio was playing so loudly a silly disco music! I made a point that it wasn't even 18:30 as discussed earlier. In the end, after a scandal and apologies from the two barmaids, we left nervous, in a terrible mood and a failed evening! Thank you very much! Never...
Read moreNot sure what the rave is about at this place. It actually destroys my good impression of Mekitsa. I had it before at another store and it was so good that I insisted to have it again and this comes up in my search, BUT it is a total disappointment. The dough was not fluffy enough so the donut was thick and not crispy, you will pack a lot of calories for less than ideal donut. Also, the donut is salty!!! The lady selling the donut today was in such a bad mood, super rude to guests, almost yelling at them for not checking if there are seats upstairs, mirking…etc… super rude! it’s appalling. The guy who fried the donut was nice and friendly and she scolded him in front of guests for talking to them. Not sure if it’s a bad day or she is always this b*tchy. Overall this place is a NO if you want to keep a good memory of mekitsa. Not a friendly place and...
