Ngon Restaurant — Restaurant in Khan Chamkar Mon

I visited a restaurant with three female friends, and we witnessed a disturbing incident at the adjacent table where a group of intoxicated men were coercing the staff to drink and then inappropriately touching them. I inadvertently saw this and was subsequently noticed by these men, who stared at me intensely for around 10 minutes. One of the men then approached our table, repeatedly asking for my name and phone number, and incessantly bothering us. Despite our polite attempts to deflect his advances, he refused to leave, and his leering made us feel deeply uncomfortable and fearful. Eventually, we had to move to another table to avoid him.

The most concerning part was the reaction of the restaurant staff and management. When we approached them to report the harassment, they avoided us entirely and showed a shocking level of irresponsibility and disrespect towards customers. I called the restaurant owner to explain the situation, highlighting that no one intervened or provided any security assistance. The owner merely offered a superficial apology without proposing any solutions or demonstrating any accountability.

Such behavior from the owner and staff of a prominent restaurant is entirely unacceptable. The establishment’s poor service quality and disregard for customer safety make it a place to avoid, especially for women who may be dining alone. I came this restuarant every time when I visited Phnom Penh for my business. For everytime I request receipt, never got any problem and the staffs are very nice.But today, I went there as always and request receipt after finished mymeal aswell. They denied to issued the document for me with the non-sense reason, cash machinery was broken but I saw from other tables have got regular. I have asking them with polite word that I really need it, they offerred to write all in paper, a paper without head of letter or name of restuarant. The staff who I have asking to was bad manner like gangster or bad guy. Talked with me with impolite manner, I asking to met manager. The manager is sort of man like the staff who is bad manner but not at all. His action similar as not care about what happend and not care or worry. Event if I asked him to asking his staff to say sorry for me, the bad manner staff still bad manner wile said sorry. Very bad feeling, and this is the last time with this restuarant for me, never again and strong recommend should not go there. I will ask for all people that I know would not go this restuarant forever! One star is too much, very wonder why this restuarant has low...

Food was ok. The beef pho was pretty good but not great, compared with Vietnam. Lacking flavour but still enjoyable. However, I observed the waiters (both male) pickup the money from 2 tables, mine and another table also and immediately open the billfold and act disgusted. I assume they were expecting bigger tips or something, but the behaviour is completely unacceptable. First of all, I don’t think either of those males were even the ones dealing with the tables (our order taker was female). Secondly, it’s completely unacceptable to act like that when picking up money. I mean it’s one thing in the back room, but 5 feet away from our table?! Finally, this is really the cancer of bringing tipping culture to Asia. Things move very quickly from “here’s a nice surprise for your excellent service” to “I deserve a tip for doing nothing”, which is what’s killing the service industry in the west.
