BE AWARE TO ONLY BRING EXACT CHANGE. 5/4/23 - Attended as a group booking with a set menu for 22 people. Drinks to be paid individually. DRINKS: Drinks were slow to arrive, some over 35 mins after ordering. FOOD: The meal was okay for if this wasn’t a hotel but truly they are nothing special in a city known for its fantastic food offerings.
Main dishes were placed on table but accompanying plain steamed rice turned up 20 minutes later, therefore, mains were then mostly cold. For a set menu this was unforgivable.
PAYING THE BILL: BE AWARE - The bill will included a variety of unannounced service fees on top of the VAT. ALSO - THEY WILL NOT GIVE US$ DOLLARS IN CHANGE UNDER $10USD. This is not advertised and they play dumb when you ask for US$ in change. Rude and insulting behaviour from the Maître D’. Unforgivable.
On this occasion they gave 21,900 riel (US$5.40)and refused to give even offer us $4 in change, saying “we don’t have enough $1 & $5 notes tonight”. This was incorrect as the 21 others in our group had provided a surplus of small USD notes.
The ambience was good and our group enjoyed the dinning experience, but it end on a very sour situation and we won’t be attending or recommending Bananna Tree Restaurant, given the handling of the bill payment our night was diminished by their handling of the change and following lame excuses.
NO TIPPING FOR TONIGHT’S TREATMENT OF DINERS.
Finally, BE AWARE TO ONLY BRING EXACT CHANGE...

Food was $2-3 more than the same stuff elsewhere in Phnom Penh. When we got the bill (30.01$) for 3 curries and rice, this included a surprising service charge. After being told "the wifi was down, so we need cash not card" we asked if we could please take only the 1 cent away from the service charge to not get lots of change from a $10 note, which was met with some rudeness and uncooperation. Took some back and forth but they did eventually take it off.
Probably wouldn't go back there as had better food elsewhere...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem in Phnom Penh. I didn't see a sign outside so I wasn't sure at first that I was in the right place. Someone came and escorted me through their beautiful courtyard into the restaurant.
Bopha was incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to make my experience a positive one. She recommended a nice wine pairing for my meal which was spot on.
I had the set menu and enjoyed every part - in particular the Amok. The soft music and quiet restaurant atmosphere made for a peaceful meal.
The rest of the team were friendly, respectful and welcoming.
I dined here on the recommendation of a Trip Advisor tour guide and it didn't disappoint. I...
