The Golden Dolphin River (formerly the Blue Dolphin Bar & Restaurant- as still incorrectly listed on Google Maps) is another of the many restaurants along Street 172. They serve a variety of food cuisines/styles aimed at the local tourists and ex-pats at a very reasonable price with decent sized portions. They have an all day Breakfast menu, and offer many choices of Western, Asian & Khmer food, as well as Pasta & Pizza plus a variety of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The Golden Dolphin River Restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor street side seating with overhead fans to help diners keep cool. They are one of the smaller restaurants but it's easy to get a table (though can be a bit difficult for an outdoor table). Apart from their tasty, good quality food, their genuinely cheerful, friendly and top service offered by their staff is a big bonus and an asset. I've dined here frequently and it's always been a pleasure. I can highly recommend eating both the Chicken Amok & Char Kreung (both come with rice), which are delicious plus their Pan Fried Pork with Mustard Pepper Sauce (served with fried potatoes, bacon & onions). This dish is a big winner in my opinion. The Golden Dolphin Cheeseburger with Fries (USD5.75) is also a pretty good & tasty option too. Overall, I haven't had a dish/meal here that wasn't good - it's all been very good to excellent. This restaurant is one of my favourite places along Street 172 to eat....friendly staff & good food, and usually you can still get a meal after 10pm....and they're happy to serve you too being a...
Read moreThe Blue Dolphin has been on the cheap tourist restaurant scene in Phnom Penh for more than a decade. Given the transient nature of the city's shopfronts, you'd think there must be a reason for its longevity. There is: Blue Dolphin has some of the most affordable and reliably appetising food in Daun Penh, the old part of town between Psar Thmei and Riverside. Their menu ranges from Khmer to Western, Mexican, Indian and Thai and all points in between. Unnlike many of the "jack of all trades, master of none" rattan-chaired, shopfront restaurants in the area they actually do a pretty authentic job of each dish.
IIf you're used to eggs on toast, be aware your breakfast might come with a baguette instead - but then who actually does eggs on toast these days anyway? Hipster cafés force you assemble that dish yourself. On a muggy, tropical afternoon you'll find the coconut shake refreshingly icy and delicious. For hot'n'spicy Asian, you can't go past the seafood tom yum, and for a Sunday roast, try the Chicken Rabedo. I also rate the Blue Dolphin Burger, which does not contain traces of dolphin.
I've deducted one star for the time it takes to receive the bill: forever. I'd suggest asking for it when your food is served, that way it might arrive by the time you're...
Read moreI heard good things about this place so I 'attempted' to try it. I've NEVER left less than 5 star review for anywhere I have reviewed but that changes here. It's a nice place, extensive menu, good atmosphere. Me and another gentleman at a table across from me sat down same time. They took my order. They took his...10 mins later his is there. No problem, different things take different amount of times to cook, besides, i'm in no hurry...35 mins later other guy is finished and leaving still i have no food and no word of what's going on...still no problem, i'm patient. I decide to wait 60 mins from when i ordered. Still no food and no word. I had ordered a $1 coke. Still i'm not angry. I understand people get busy, forget things. no problem...go to counter, put $1 and said that's for me...5 employee standing there...did they say anything? nope, not a word...so,,, food might be great, don't let me put you off going there but I'll certainly NEVER know as I wouldn't go there if meal...
