Khmer Grill was our first exposure to Khmer cuisine. Was our first evening at Siem Reap. Arrived late in the evening from Phnom Penh by bus. Were hungry and sleepy and went to this place, which was nearby to our hotel. First thing which struck was the hospitality of the staff, ever smiling and ready to help. We had little idea about what to choose, but found that the menu has some similarity with Thai cuisine. We finally ordered Banana Flower Salad (entirely new to us), Fried Spring Rolls, Kor Ko Soup Chicken with steamed rice, Fried Noodles Chicken and Mango Sticky Rice (dessert). The salad was extraordinary. In India we cook banana flower as a vegetable curry option, but never had an idea that a salad could be made out of it. The accompanying vegetables were fresh and filling. The spring rolls were healthy with adequate vegetable filling and tasty, as well. The kor ko soup was new to us, but was very pleasant to taste, light, flavorful and with rice gives a soothing effect. The noodles were enriched with vegetables and chicken with an egg omlette on top and very tasteful, indeed. The final show stealer was the mango sticky rice, never had a dessert like this before, tasty, light and not too sweet, perfect way to end the meal. The portions were more than enough and price very reasonable. We returned to our hotel with a...
Read moreCame here after a long day of sight seeing with my wife’s extended family that lives in Battambang and just outside Siem Reap. I just picked the placed based on positive reviews, but realized we kind of made a mistake when we arrived and I noticed most patrons were tourists. The juices and shakes were really good, no complaints there.
The food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. It is typical of what one would find in an American Thai restaurant, the flavors were very bland and confusing. My wife’s soup wasn’t sour enough, the ribs were extremely dry and tough and had no flavor, no lemongrass, no juiciness. Beef Lok Lak was extremely tough and my daughter had difficulty finishing it despite it being her favorite Khmer dish. I had a feeling most of the food was pre-prepared, my son’s meal took the longest and arrived after most of us were done: a sandwhich.
Its sad to me that it can be so hard to find good authentic Khmer food in Siem Reap of all places, partially I blame tourists who come looking to eat Pad Thai. I understand catering to both cuisines, but I found neither to...
Read moreI cannot speak more highly of this restaurant. I first came here 6 years earlier and ate there every day. In November 2024, my partner and I ate here every day for our 5 day trip. Sometimes we ate their twice, which amused the staff. Both my partner and I would travel to Siem Reap just to eat there again, which I feel like I did.
The staff are spectacular. They answered all our questions and offered great advice. We even managed to harass Set into having a drink with us. Both Sia and Set, as well as everyone there, were so attentive. At no point did we feel like we were overlooked, even when we were the only ones on the terrace. Sia is incredibly kind and Set is hilarious. The owner, Botum, was kind enough to gift us the pepper sauce that goes with the fried frogs. I had dreams about that pepper sauce for years and can now make it myself.
Thank you to all of you. We are working towards our next trip there, which we hope...
