Highly recommending everyone visiting Siem Reap to contribute and offer patronage to this excellent NGO initiative allowing customers to support educating and developing individuals into becoming professionals while eating delicious local food. I started with their Spoonatini signature cocktail and it was an enjoyable and well balanced drink. For the food, I had the Lotus family salad which was really flavorful and unique. A great way to discover new produce, ingredients and an excellent recipe. It is a mix of soft & crunchy vegetables, edible flower leaves, soft lotus purée under the grilled shrimps with an edible crunchy bread bowl. For the main dish, I went for their home made beef & pork sausages served with sweet potato slices, sticky rice and a small salad both wrapped separately in banana leaves. The sausages were good but unfortunately too dry for my taste and the sauce wasn’t enough. I am sure the restaurant will improve on this. For dessert, I ordered the banana milk cake. It was succulent.
The staff is obviously in training (goal of the restaurant) but there was a very attentive mentorship from senior staff members making it easy and fast to correct a few mis-steps.
The dining area is covered by a well designed roof but remains fully open. There are a lot of fan but even at 9pm in April, it wasn’t sufficient to not feel hit and sweaty. This is also an area fir...
Read moreA friendly place with a great atmosphere and a good cause. The staff are really attentive, extremely polite and kind. The manager overlooks everything non-intrusively. The menu is small but features a sufficient selection of dishes. I ordered coconut rice cakes for the starter and coconut chicken as recommended by the waiter for the main. The starters range between $3.50-5.00 and mains $5.75-7.50. The rice cakes were really hot and nicely gooey inside. The dipping coconut sauce that came with them was tasty if not slightly too salty. Overall, a lovely starter and in fact I saved some to have with the main as it went really well with it. The chicken breast was perfectly grilled and the interesting coconut-pineapple-pepper sauce complemented the smokey flavour, although again, the dish would do with slightly less salt and perhaps just a bit more veg on the side. Everything not to hot, perhaps to suit an international palate. The atmosphere, slightly off the centre and with the accommodation for students in the back, was relaxed and cosy.
Overall, good price for the quality and the experience as a whole. Food tasty although not traditional sensu stricte....
Read moreSpoons is amazing, a must stop while in Siem Reap. Firstly, they’re a social enterprise who train local Khmer chefs and servers in the hospitality business. The location is beautifully appointed and comfortable. I went for 2 local dishes and felt like I was in a high end Michelin restaurant for 1/10th the price. Prices were extremely reasonable.
My only suggestions are simply because I have been in the service industry for 20+ years and we can always improve. The service lingered at the table and hovered around until you would take a bite etc…I could tell she genuinely wanted to know everything was ok but usually let the customer sit with their food a few bites before coming back to ask. I am not a judge on a cooking show who needs to be watched lol
The fish Amook was beautifully presented but needed a bit of salt. It was on the bland side but overall flavor and veggies were good.
The strings music was loud and seemed to repeat pop songs or disney songs? Maybe try a gentler local music.
