In the heart of Siem Reap, surrounded by ancient temples and markets that buzz with life, lies this modest eatery called Tevy’s Place. Tevy, a spirited woman is the soul behind this culinary gem. There is an inspiring story behind the owner Tevy, whose family, like so many, suffered under the Khmer Rouge. She chose Carl Jung’s quote “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become” as her life model. Walking into Tevy’s Place feels like discovering a hidden treasure. The cozy interior, adorned with simple yet tasteful decor, immediately puts you at ease. The walls adorned with family photos gives it a personal touch. Tevy was there and welcomed us, and we also met Cecil, (the Irishman volunteer) who has supported Tevy and her business. Their shared stories added a personal touch to our dining experience. Tevy’s brings the flavours of Cambodia to life. I tried the Fish Amok (A fragrant Cambodian curry with tender fish fillet, coconut milk, and aromatic spices) and it truly is testament to this. The restaurant offers a mix of Khmer and Western cuisine, with a focus on organic ingredients and includes vegetarian options. Tevy’s Place offers exceptional value, generous portions, and the quality surpasses expectations. We are truly blessed to have stumbled into this restaurant, to have met Tevy and Cecil and to have left a “footprint in the shifting sands of...
Read moreOne day, as I was walking by Tevy's restaurant, I saw it packed with people while all the other places were empty. This caught my attention, so I decided to check it out, and it didn't take long for me to see why it's so popular. Right when I walked in, the staff greeted me with smiles and made me feel really welcome, even though they were busy that night. I loved this place so much that I went there four days in a row during my short stay.
Tevy's has an awesome variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes, so as someone who doesn't eat meat, I had plenty of choices (though honestly, I struggled because I wanted to order everything!). My absolute favorite was the tofu and mushroom amok; it was bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced. Don’t forget to try their fresh juices too, the lime one was my favorite, so refreshing 😍
But what really makes this place special is the community. Mrs. Tevy and Mr. Cecil are wonderful people, and I'm glad I got to chat with them. All the staff are super kind and attentive, I'd like to make a special mention to Sok Nav—she’s truly a gem. Please make sure to support Tevy's business when you’re...
Read moreGreat food and prices. If you make reservations- don’t expect them to be honored. Additional information for clarification based on the owners response below: reservations at this restaurant are able to be made for a specific table. We know because we have had to sit in other areas as walk-ins. Offering a different table with plastic or folding chairs or directly in line with the main entrance was not acceptable. We understand mistakes happen. Now you need to understand- we took time to come in person to make a reservation for a specific table early in the morning, we then traveled to your establishment only to be offered something we didn’t reserve. As for the staff, we were very kind and respectful, we even told the them it’s okay- we will just eat somewhere else. We have frequently eaten at this restaurant and there are normally notes on the table with the reservation time and name… we filled that out with the staff and explained it clearly (even showing them the table). We aren’t mad, we just ate somewhere else. Hope that’s specific enough as to not be...
