My family and I (3 individuals) dined here for my daughter’s birthday at the end of December with reservation. We had chosen this restaurant because although we had never been to this location we are all generally big fans of The Keg and it’s historically been our “go to” for family meals and celebrations.
I honestly can’t even express how disappointed we were with the food at this location.
My daughter and wife both ordered steak and both felt it was mediocre at best. My meal was served with the included vegetables missing and when it was mentioned I was brought a plate of asparagus that was incredibly undercooked and still partially raw. My wife also found her vegetables to be partially raw. I ordered the lobster and this was also not warmed properly and definitely tasted a bit watery. I don’t know how to describe it other then not really having a taste and being consistent with something that had been in a freezer and thawed in a way that made it incredibly watery. I’m not saying this is what occurred but it definitely tasted and presented this way. When the waitress asked about how the meal had been I did share that generally we are happy with The Keg , however , were all very disappointed with this visit and meal. She responded in a way that didn’t seem like she was surprised , however , didn’t offer to connect us with a manager etc. I would typically have taken the time to deal with this on-site , however , we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and I didn’t want to take away from that by focusing on negativity. The waitress did offer a dessert “ on the house “ for my daughter as we were there to celebrate her birthday. My daughter ordered a crème brûlée and it was honestly absolutely disgusting and this is the first time ever that we have ordered this dessert from this restaurant chain and hated it. The top part of the brûlée was not crusted as it usually is and was instead soft and soggy , the remainder of the dessert was runny and gross to the point that my daughter didn’t even consume it .
The waitress overall was good and checked in pretty consistently for drink refills so that was positive.
The meal came to just under $400 with tip , I believe the actual meal was like $340 and honestly this food wasn’t worth it . We ate at a new steak and fish restaurant in Vancouver yesterday and that bill came in $140 cheaper and was better quality , quantity , freshness, and service. We will never return to this Keg after seeing what other restaurants are providing for comparable rates.
I don’t mind paying for a good meal , especially when it’s to recognize an important event or celebration, but in these times most people are feeling the stress of inflation and overall state of the economy and it doesn’t cut it anymore to charge over a few hundred dollars for a meal that tastes like it should be $20 per plate. This was a very disappointing meal and I can’t recommend anyone eating here after this...
Read moreThis was meant to be a special evening out for my three children and me. We chose The Keg because it’s always been fantastic whenever my husband and I have gone in the past. The atmosphere, as expected, was nice—but unfortunately, we were seated in a section with an obviously new waitress who also had a large party to serve. When she finally came to our table, she asked if we were ready to order or get appetizers started—even though we hadn’t even been asked about drinks yet. I let her know we’d like to order our beverages, and her response made it feel like we were an inconvenience. Our appetizers came out fairly quickly and were very good. But then… nothing. About 45 minutes later, she returned to ask if we were ready for the bill. I was shocked—we hadn’t even been asked abput drink refills or about our main courses yet. I told her we’d like to order our mains and also get drink refills, if that wasn’t too much trouble. Again, her body language and tone gave the impression that she just didn’t want to serve us. We watched other tables—seated well after us—get served and leave before we even received our meals. It was frustrating and honestly baffling. My kids are 21, 14, and 17 months old. As you can imagine, a toddler cannot sit patiently for over two hours waiting for dinner. She did amazingly well, considering—but by the time the food finally arrived, she was understandably fussy. Then, to add insult to injury, the food wasn’t even good. My baked potato had a crust on it like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for way too long. The mushrooms were cold, and my prime rib wasn’t cooked properly. At that point, I didn’t even have the energy to deal with it. The kids ate what they could, and we left. I honestly felt like we were being ignored on purpose. I tried multiple times to get her attention, but it felt like we were just brushed off. We live in a small town in the interior, and this little trip to the coast was supposed to be a mini vacation—a chance to enjoy a nice dinner out. Instead, we were made to feel like an inconvenience. I’m really disappointed. We’ve always had great experiences at The Keg, which is why we chose it for our special night. Sadly, this visit did not live up to that...
Read moreThis past week, three of my family members elected to go to the keg, Abbotsford location to celebrate our birthday. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. Upon entering, our reserved table was waiting for us, and we were elated to be able to be seated at our table shortly after arriving. Our hostess and server were incredible. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about our service.
Unfortunately, that is the only positive review I can leave. Our dinner was quite large, and we spent a considerable amount of money on a bottle of wine, appetizers, steak, lobster and dessert for the 5 of us. We invested monetarily significantly. The mushrooms were positively delicious! They were rich, creamy, and a small portion as an appetizer. It was heavenly to enjoy each bite. The calamari was very overdone. So while chewing, it was similar in texture to a rubber balloon. The coating on the calamari was delicious as was the tzatziki. The wine…. I would not recommend. We had Prosecco and moscato. The largest disappointment was the steak. It lacked depth in flavour. It was also significantly tough to eat. We elected for prime rib, which I always thought was the best cut. I did not enjoy it. It tasted to me like it was a roast that was simply cut. I wouldn’t recommend it. It had no flavour, it had no depth, and it was extremely disappointing. I love steak and when I have steak in a restaurant I need to have that flame grill on the outside, with spices that each bite tastes like a salty piece of heaven. I think I made a mistake with the steak I ordered because it was the toughest piece of steak, bland and was not enjoyable at all. The lobster was overcooked. The vegetable ordered were incredibly delicious! I would order them any day. If I ever choose to go back, I will probably ask for the best cut, or an alternative steak. Unfortunately, despite spending close to $100 per person on their steak and seafood dinner, not one of us enjoyed our meal, and could not recommend the food to others. I wish to speak again to the amazing staff for attempting to make each person happy with their dinner choices, and the service was beautiful to experience. Unfortunately I could not...
