Long story short: the reviews about the service and the manager/owner are true and even if the worst service you'll ever have doesn't scare you off, you should know, the ice cream here is far below the standards you find at every other marble slab, far below what you'll find at the grocery store, truly not with your time!
Long story long: I love marble slab (the ice cream, the service everywhere seems to be hit or miss but general going down hill as a franchise) however but l will never go to this location again!! Places like this are the reason that there should be an option for 0 stars! Like so many others I had a horrible experience with the owner/manager, who in all seriousness seems to be filled with so much anger and hatred she just sort of projects it at anyone and everyone in her path! No customer or employee is safe! I should have done the ethical thing and just walked away after seeing her abusing her employees by yelling and physically shoving them, instead, I was an ice cream loving coward who felt too scared to say anything and too awkward to walk away out of the line I was in.
My experience only got worse as it continued. The staff were very rude and didn't really seem to know what they were doing (probably from being overwhelmed and overstressed it wasn't a condescending rudeness on their part more intense irritability that probably came from frayed nerves and fear of further abuse, like please just get your order over with and don't ask for more than one mix in or the owner/manager will yell at me) it was a scary disorganization ice cream assembly line of fear, intimidation, anger and irritability.
No one should feel fearful and threatened while ordering ice cream or working at an ice cream.shop!
The manager/owner took over my order after yelling at and shoving yet another employee. She seemed very mad that I wanted more than one kind of mix in and put such tiny amounts of the 2 things she did put in that it might as well have just ordered it plain. They didn't have most of the things that I asked for (things that are standard at every other marble slab I've been to) and what they did have was apparently being rationed to an extreme! When I asked if she could add bit more or each of the two things her tone went from hostile (weāre talking fully hostile, way too aggressive for anyone in customer service even if maybe they were having a bad day or something) to full out screaming at me. Iām not a timid person but Iāll admit, I was scared at this point! I paid and got away from there as fast as I could there was no point even trying to talk about the service.
After all the fear, stress, yelling and screaming (which should not be part of ordering ice cream ever) the ice cream was not good, the mix ins were stale, so extremely stale it reminded me of being a kid finding Halloween candy that was hid from siblings years before then couldn't find it again because the hiding spot was so good and it's still in the the packaging so you think it's okay but realize it's for sure not okay after the first bite. The ice cream itself was also very stale tasting, there were almost no mix ins so I think it must have been freezer burnt and I don't know if it was the freezer burn masking the flavours of the ice cream or maybe they mixed up the sweet cream and the cheesecake or some low calorie yogurt or what but the only thing I could taste was slight sweet staleness, it wasn't even very creamy.
After such bad service I could have really used a nice treat to cheer me up but the ice cream was so bad I had to toss it after two bites(had to be sure I wasn't mistaken, because how could they be selling something that tastes like that),this is really saying something because I hate...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst, I love Marble Slab ice cream in general. Second, I have only gone to 3 locations - Country Hills NE, Cross Iron, and Market Mall. This review is about the service at CROSS IRON, which is the absolute worst and will be avoided going forwards. Look at the other detailed reviews to corroborate my experience. I have been there several times when my favourite flavour, which only comes out occasionally, is there. 98% of the time, the toppings I order are STALE, so the last time I went, I finally decided to say something about it. After the employees rushed and mixed up my order, the consistently rude, older East Indian woman (manager) at the till asked which mixins I'd like. I asked her to please make sure the brownies are soft/fresh and not hard as it has been many times. She immediately got defensive and sarcastically commented that she cannot "make them especially for me exactly the way I want them". This was her argument the entire time. Absolutely asinine, as I was just asking that she be mindful about the quality of the brownies as they are ALWAYS crunchy and crumbly (stale) while Country Hills is always soft - huge difference. She continued her ridiculous rant, insinuating that I wanted her to bake fresh brownies just for me, and said the stale ones were probably at another location. Nope, just yours. I told her there was no need for that attitude, and she said it's not attitude and went on about her baking custom brownies for me again. She slopped "2" brownies on my ice cream, which was a broken chunk and a bunch of crumbs that a) certainly did not quantify two brownies and b) were obviously stale af as usual, hence why they were broken apart in small pieces and crumbs. I told her they were stale and she argued that's how they came. Please. They're OLD and/or not well kept. I've also had a similar experience when I asked for Snickers in my ice cream a while ago; the girl "mixing' it was using all her might to break it, like it was concrete. Chocolate that is that hard IS STALE. Just admit it and do better instead of arguing to the death, thinking everyone is stupid. I told her I didn't want it anymore and she responded "Good, I don't want you back here". Pathetic service from this person, who seems to leave a hideous impression on alot of people based on the reviews. STALE ingredients, awful service, and this disgusting display of a manager is a common theme here, so if she's reading these, she needs a reality check. She's the whole entire problem at this location. Apparently extremely nasty to her employees, too. Some reviewers get a response from someone wanting to make their experience better, but that only thing that can make this location better is getting rid of that unprofessional and belligerent woman who should not be dealing with the public or be in charge of other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWith the number of reviews this old lady has, I'm surprised she hasn't been fired yet. If you're planning to go here... don't.
Similarly, with the other reviews. My friend and I had a bad experience with this location. They were very unprofessional. When we arrived at the store, we were rushed to order. The employees told us to let them know when we were ready but they kept asking us every 10 seconds to order. There was no one lining up behind us, so we felt there was no rush.
We ordered one regular cookie dough drizzle in a cup and my friend ordered a regular cheesecake ice cream with Oreo cookies, graham cracker, and chocolate sauce in a cup. When we were ready to pay, the old lady (manager) was really rude and took my card (gift card) from me to make it easier and faster to pay. With that, she stepped into my bubble and I felt super uncomfortable especially during COVID.
Like 5 mins later, my friend began to have an allergic reaction after 2 bites. We went back to ask for a new one but the old lady straight up told us it was OUR FAULT that we had an allergic reaction. When she trying to tell us it was our fault she literally pulled her mask down just to talk to us. She literally told us that there was peanuts in the chocolate sauce?! and said if we wanted a new one made then we had to pay. They ended up making us a new one but gave us a smaller size than what we got but messed up our order AGAIN. The old lady added toppings we didn't ask for. Even though we repeated the same order 10 times.
Is it our fault that people have allergies? They need to understand and be more organized with how they deal with their ice cream and toppings because someone could die because there were pieces of peanuts mixed in with the other toppings. People do not react to something that they're allergic to unless they come to contact to it.
We noticed how disorganized they are, not COVID friendly, and not aware of cross-contamination. We have not seen them wash their hands or clean up the metal table where they mix the ice cream and toppings. Where they have their toppings close to the peanut toppings. Where it is easy for the toppings to spill with the others. They should be aware that people with allergies aren't always going to tell them that they have allergies. This should not have happened and they need to be more clean and aware of it. At this point, we are not satisfied with the experience we had. It was very...
