We had dinner in Canmore at 6 pm on Tuesday, August 31st. We were told we needed to be out by 7:30 as they had several reservations. We said no problem, we wanted to be on the road back to Calgary by then anyway. We ordered two diet Coke's with lemon, the Artisanal Salad, the Bison Short Ribs and the New York 12 ounce steak. Upon tasting the cokes I noticed there was little or no carbonation and asked our server -Julia - to please check it. A few minutes later she returned confirming my assessment and said they'd "try" to change the tank. LOL In the meantime the salad came and although the ingredients were fairly pedestrian, the salad was crisp, generous and the maple cider dressing was fabulous. The meals came out and my partner was very happy with his steak; on the other hand I was very disappointed in the bison. I have a chef's background and am very familiar with short ribs, cutting against the grain and the leanness of bison. At every cut the meat shredded terribly; it was tough and dry. It was inedible and so I told Julia and she took it and said she'd speak to the kitchen. Then the Coke's came again and there was still no carbonation. We had seen the staff bring out two different kinds of CO2 tanks (making it obvious you use post mix - not pre-mix). Julia came back and said that the chef said the meat was a little tough, bison is lean and it could have used more sauce (there was no sauce). We ordered dessert - the peach crisp - which was lovely and a decaf coffee which was freshly brewed and full-bodied. I went to freshen up and my partner paid the bill. The manager gave us 15% off the bill for the inedible bison. Frankly I was shocked at the minor adjustment made when it was obvious I had only taken one or two bites and was very unhappy. I want to stress that I was not looking for a free meal. Believe me I would have much preferred to enjoy my meal and not have to send it back. It's something I typically avoid unless absolutely necessary. I debated between the duck and the bison; guess I zigged when I should have zagged. So our experience was a mixed bag but I believe I'll come back again. The staff were all very friendly and the ambiance is very nice. Julia was particularly efficient and...
Read moreManager/ owner not super sure , he never introduced him self had very bad attitude and approach to customer. It’s all started when I gave this place a call to see if it has place for 8 people , which over the phone was confirmed that they have spot for us . When we walked in place was empty. Our table was under AC and we were freezing . We asked to see if we can move a seat somewhere else, they said they can’t as everything else is booked. We ordered our starters and finished them very quick . For our mains we waited for an hour. And then our server asks us to move somewhere else as they have reservation soon on our table , we told him that we are still here just because we never got our food yet. Then this manager approached us with already bad attitude. No “ hello , how are you guys today “ no “ im so sorry to bother you and ask you to leave “ He came up to us with “ we have a problem “ asking us to leave this table as they have reservation . We said we are actually been waiting for a food for an hour. On what he said “ because you were eating your starters “ and then “ I didn’t know you will be here so long , someone called me about happy hour “ ( I never mentioned happy hour ) I said again to him , we were not planing to be here long , we were just waiting for our mains . Then he said “ you know what fine , just stay here “ I said “ thank you “ And then he again “ well I don’t about that “
We ended up staying on this table . Food came in cold , steaks were cold and not medium- they were all done. It was my second time here , but for sure the last. This little problem could be easily fixed with skilled manager with proper attitude and social skills in customer service business ( our waiter was great, food is okay , manager ruined it for us ) Will...
Read moreHonestly, for such an expensive restaurant, the food feels cheap. There aren’t many options, and the prices are absurd for what you receive. I have been there twice now. I ordered the Lamb Meatball Spaghetti the first time, and to my Italian disappointment, there was nothing special about it. They didn’t even offer Parmesan cheese for it either. The service was good then, so we thought to return a month later. The second time, I ordered the Wagyu Beef Burger, which just lacked flavor and sauce. The good service wasn’t able to make up for the poor food this time, either, seeing as we had to wait far too long just to order drinks, let alone our food. The music was loud to the point that it was hard to hear my father, who was sitting next to me. Don’t get me started on the desserts as well. We tried three different ones: Earl Grey Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter & Jelly Mousse, and the Apricot Mascarpone Cheesecake. The chocolate cake was dry, the PB&J Moose was spongy and tasteless until you had the jam (which was just a disappointing flavor altogether.) The only positive thing I can say about this restaurant is the fact the Cheesecake was delicious. Despite all those points, the main reason why I am writing this review is to warn about how unsanitary it is. I had to witness a waiter clean the table with the same cloth he used to clean the chairs that people had previously sat on. And as this was happening, the waiter serving my table placed spoons directly onto the table with nothing protecting the silver from touching the wood. Disgusting.
TDLR: The food lacks flavor, it is overly expensive, the music is too loud, and the waiters clean the tables with the same cloth that cleans the dirty chairs people...
