My son and I decided to try Kookjae Sikdang for the first time today since he wanted to try Korean food and I was craving Japanese. We ordered Beef Bulgogi, Chicken Katsu, California rolls, Dynamite rolls. We were served some small bowls of kimchi, glass noodles, Mac & cheese and a julienned pickled vegetable (I’m not sure which vegetable) and miso soup all of which were excellent. Our California and Dynamite rolls were very fresh, delicious and sized perfectly for “one bite”. This was the first time either of us had tried Bulgogi and it was amazing! Very tasty, tender, stir fried shaved beef with vegetables which were still crispy and it was served on a hot plate so the food remained warm. Our Bulgogi also came with Korean rice. The rice was also very flavourful and served in a beautiful bowl. Our chicken katsu was crispy and perfectly breaded with a tasty, sweet sauce and it came with Japanese rice. We were also served a dish I can’t remember the name of but it was described to us as Krispy rice and it was meant to be a sort of dessert. It had a very unique texture and a delicate nutty taste. The service was excellent and the restaurant was clean with plenty of tables and roomy booths. Will definitely go back again. Please forgive my limited knowledge of the correct names for the dishes we ate but I will learn soon since I will be going back there again and again!

Came here because of the 5 star reviews, which is really rare for any restaurant. The food was good, nicely presented. But here are a few observations: I went on a weekday afternoon when the place wasn’t busy at all. Somehow I was seated by a large group, who were very loud. They were having a good time with speeches and clapping which was great. But not sure why the waitress sat me near them when rest of the restaurant was empty. I ordered Tako Yaki appetizer. It’s supposed to be dough based but the portion of squid was really small for the price. The salmon lunch combo was good. But usually a Japanese meal comes with soup and salad. But this meal only had soup, side dishes of pasta and potato based noodles. There was no vegetable with the meal at all. Oh and the menu was poorly printed white letter size paper. Overall one appetizer and one lunch combo costed $50 with tax and tips. I’m not sure is it just me or are expectations for $50 lunch has gone down post COVID. I’d certainly expect better service and more balanced nutritions for that price.

Ordered a Party Tray #8 & 2 miso soup for take out. Online reviews were solid but tonight's meal was bland and dissapointing. Miso soups were small and bland, no tofu, small amount of seaweed. I LOVE miso soup but didn't finish this. Party tray had good selection of rolls, sushi & sashimi. Roll sizes were average to good with excellent rolling. They did not fall apart at all which was nice. But California & dynamite rolls were missing fish eggs and Wasabi. Sushi piece were also all missing Wasabi and had little to no flavor. Sashimi slices were average to good size. Some came torched which was a nice touch. Others had lemon slices. But unfortunately nothing had much flavor. Most pieces just dissolved on the tongue rather than melting. I understand that sometimes things get cut to help the restaurant's bottom line. Too much was left out to make anything of this meal stand out, other than the fact that it tasted like nothing. I hate to waste food, but half of this tray is going in the garbage.

been my fave sushi spot for about 2 years. my bf and i accidentally found this place back in 2023 after an appointment of his in aurora, we were craving sushi and talking about finding a place just before driving past the aurora go and seeing the sign. we thought “let’s check it and just see” and were so grateful we took the chance.

it has such a nice casual vibe inside, while being designed like a higher end restaurant, and it’s even more fascinating because it looks so unassuming from the outside. it creates the perfect setting for making core memories in your 20s i feel.

food is phenomenal, best sushi you’re gonna get between york region and municipales. it’s the most authentic place and the prices aren’t exorbitant for it being more authentic, which is a huge point for why my friends and i come back. we are all broke ass 20 year olds, but we deserve healthy food too man!

so many restaurants and food places leave you feeling sick and unhealthy after you leave, we always consistently walk out feeling like we just had the healthiest most filling meal we’ve had in months.

also the service is great because the staff don’t hover, they have so much to work on in the restaurant they just occasionally come by and do a casual check in, re-up anything, and then you get to approach the counter to pay when you’re done which i’ve always kind of liked places that do that more than paying at the table, makes it easier to just pay and go. the staff are all super nice when you do talk to them, but it never feels forced like a lot of places do. it’s probably the best business model i’ve seen in terms of my generations preferences for service.

i always get the Rainbow Hago as my main dish, it’s the best assorted fish line you’re gonna find anywhere in the area.

please don’t change what you guys are doing, it’s incredible and you’re a gem of a...

I am over-the-moon to discover Kookjae restaurant located in Aurora. A newly opened restaurant with their sister location Min Sushi, in Richmond Hill. The owners regard service highly, a warm friendly welcome as soon as you enter, and you’ll feel like part of the family by the time you leave.

Service The staff is quick on their feet. Water refills and quality food check throughout the service. It isn’t one of those restaurants where you are tagging the server down, looking for a drink, top off for tea etc. The waitresses here will beat you to it!

Food The establishment offers both Japanese and Korean cuisine, they are delicious and meticulously prepared. I personally appreciate the effort they put in their food and it shows with every empty plate that I leave behind!

Pork bone soup is one of the staples to Korean food, the chef takes the extra mile in adding more bones, extra garnishes, which adds boldness and depth in the taste. The sushi itself is excellent, fresh, and perfect size! The tempura is served larger than most restaurants I’ve visited.

Overall, I am sold as a regular customer and would 10/10 recommend this place to all friends and family. Thank you to the owners...
