I have had so many inconsistent and bad experiences at this place, it has gone far beyond strike three. I am a firm believer that everyone deserves a second chance (In this case 10th), and everyone deserves a little compassion because we can all have a bad day sometimes. Not this place, this is my objective review. I have been in the restaurant and catering industry for 20 years and if I have learned one thing about people in the service industry, not everyone gets the service part. The Chicken Place serves a good product but in this day and age, one must understand that your service is what keeps people coming back. It is so important to understand that a customer only wants to be valued and appreciated. People break there necks working hard for their money and if they are going to spend it at a restaurant, they want to know that they are getting their money's worth, and are valued. I have given them a one star because their chicken is good, everything else is a complete fail. I have seen them be rude, obnoxious and extremely cheap. Insincere and unapologetic. Not only to myself, but to other customers as well. They make their problem your problem. Let me present one of many examples. I ordered an extra side of peri peri sauce (Because they only give you one 2oz ramekin per whole family portion...really!), I waited 35 minutes for my food and when they handed it to me, I noticed that they only gave me one. When I mentioned this to the owner (who is the cook as well) she asked to see my receipt. When she noticed that THEY forgot to charge me for it, she and told me that I would have to line up(in a five person line) to ding me for the extra dollar for the sauce. Now if you have never been here before, five people can take at least 10-15 minutes. REDICULOUS! How cheap can you be? Especially when you see my face there practically every Friday night over the summer months. Extremely small picture and short term thinkers. The tipping point was recently when I order a WHOLE chicken and went home to find 3 drumsticks, 1 wing and a half of a breast. I said whole chicken, not chicken parts people. I immediately called to voice my concern and explained to the cashier on the phone what had happened. Her answer to that was "My mom is busy cooking right now can she call you back?" sure! Do you think I ever received a call back? Of course not. Ripping people off, or simply not caring, seems to be an acceptable business practice for them. Anyway, this is a couple of many ridiculous experiences there. If you decide to go to this place, then you have to keep your standard extremely low and be of the mindset that you owe them something. Otherwise, you may likely leave feeling very upset. The Chicken Place, you have lost me as a customer. Good...
Read moreI finally got around to trying this restaurant after multiple recommendations. The reputation is well deserved. The chicken and all four sides that we tried were excellent. Everything was very fresh and prepared and seasoned well. Their sauces were a particular highlight. An excellent choice if you want to pick up a meal for the family.
In addition to their chicken dinners, they have a few other offerings and also provide 'a la carte' selections. You may supplement your combos or add in some non-chicken options for any member of your group who isn't in the mood for chicken.
The restaurant has minimal seating: just a row of stools along two walls. The focus of the restaurant is clearly on takeout and not dining in, but certainly you could stay for a quick bite, comparable to a takeout pizza joint.
This is not a fast food restaurant. They cook fresh when you order, and chicken does not cook instantly. Check out the menu and phone in your order ahead to save yourself a wait.
I did find a little bit of disparity in the portion sizes between the chicken and the sides. We ordered the combo number one, a whole chicken with four medium sides and a sauce. As expected, the whole chicken was the right amount of chicken for our group. A man and two older ladies split the chicken into a half and two quarters, respectively. The sides, however, would have been enough to feed twice as many of us. As the sides were delicious, I look forward to the leftovers, but the quantity surprised me and is something to consider when ordering.
All in all, the food was excellent and fair value for the money. I think this restaurant is worth the five stars if you take the time to consider your order (including the wait) and you are not looking for a dine...
Read moreI ordered a Poutine loaded with shredded chicken. I just want to get it out. It's not a Poutine. It's salted fries at the bottom with peri peri sauced drenched shredded chicken on top.
If you look at the two components individually, it's pretty good. Fries are freshly refried. It's salted pretty nicely. Maybe a bit overly salty but not that bad. The shredded chicken are slightly dry but it's preshredded. The sauce is nice.
But if you're looking for a saucy, cheesy poutine, you're not getting one. And putting the two together, it's not good. It's okay but they don't work together well. The whole dish is just too dry. I assume a full meal would give a much saucier chicken with much less fries so the proportions would be better.
That said, that gigantic box of fries and chicken only cost $10. That poutine place near Canadian Tire charges $10 for a smaller poutine and no chicken. I think their chicken version is like $14. But it's also less chicken.
I had a bunch of cheese, periperi sauce, kewpie mayo and okonomiyaki sauce at home. So I just sauced it up and it was a very nice cheesy loaded fries.
Yeah, 3 Star for the food. 5 star for...
