Group of 28. The Aurora Foodies Group visited last evening. We pre-ordered , provided a spreadsheet with orders under our names, wore name tags and had place cards, which we provided, all to facilitate a smooth evening. We were assured that we could be accommodated. I waited 2 hours for my meal. It was not what I had ordered, did not receive my appetizer, although I had prompted them 3x. (Server 2x and management 1x). Some people received drinks, appetizer and more than one main course, had finished it all, before others even got a drink. One of our party was forgotten altogether and never served! She finally had to leave. Manager did not take responsibility for their errors. They blamed, us, our event organizer, anyone but themselves. Staff was defensive and incompetent. Simple amends should have been made at the time, but was never offered. I can share more details but it's too much. Manager even tried to charge me for the appetizer (that I never received and he said I DID NOT ORDER)..
It is truly a shame as we were really looking forward to this event. We support local and gave this restaurant an opportunity to shine amongst the others. I will not be returning. As I'm sure many others will not as well. And word does travel...
UPDATE: As a comment to Owner's response below: (which they have now erased) It is restaurant protocol to serve appetizers before the main course. That should not have be explained to you. Although, Our organizer(s) spoke to both Purvanshia and Parth to clarify this. Communication on our behalf was made clear.
This has zero to do with the fact that most guests did not receive their meal in a timely manner. Most waited 1/2-2 hours. One guest did not receive her order at all (was forgotten), Incorrect orders were served, I myself never received my appetizer (although I was charged for it and then when i questioned the owner, I was told I never ordered it), Drink orders were not taken until an hour after being seated, then guests still had to chase down the whereabouts of those drinks, Some guests received their meal with no rice side, it took 45 minutes for rice to arrive, at that time their meal being cold, Some had to chase down cutlery after their meal was served.
A proper and graceful response should have been simply "we thought we were prepared for your group, but were not. We have learned from this experience. We sincerely apologize. As a token of good faith, we are issuing complementary meal certificates to all guests that were inconvenienced. "
Very simple business etiquette could have restored faith in your establishment.
Fyi. 15% off that you offered our organizer for us to come back...
Read moreMy wife and I were excited to try the new Indian restaurant Saffron when we heard they were opening up in Aurora. We both love Indian food, and decided to celebrate her birthday at Saffron. We were a party of ten and we had made reservations. We started off with drinks. Be aware that at the time they did not have a wine cooler, so the wine was at room temperature. And cocktails were not their strong suit, as some of the cocktails were lacking much alcohol. The safe bet is to order beer – should you wish to have some alcohol. Our server suggested we try their non vegetarian BBQ sizzler plate. He advised that we will need at least 3 dishes for the ten of us. When the BBQ plate came out, we understood why we needed to order three. The portions were very small. I love Chicken Tikka, and Tandoori Chicken, but this assortment of BBQ meats and fish was lacking, especially at the price point they were charging. We wanted to try a variety of dishes, and ordered several dishes including some of their Chinese dishes. Surprisingly the Hakka dishes were our favourites, along with a couple of their curry dishes. But the rest of the food was okay. Not great, and we wouldn’t get it again. The issue we had with this restaurant is that from a price standpoint, this is a premium high-end restaurant. Even their Naan bread which was again a small portion, is between $6 to $7. We knew this wasn’t a cheap restaurant going in, and we have no problem spending money for good food. But not all the food was great, and more importantly the portion sizes were really small. Lastly, as this was my wife’s birthday we were celebrating, and our meal was north of $800, I guess it was too much to hope that they would at least provide a complimentary dessert for my wife, but alas that was not the case. They do offer up a lunch buffet, which I would imagine would be the best bet to try their food without spending too much. There are several very good Indian restaurants, with amazing food, and reasonable prices. You will just have to drive a bit to get to them. This isn’t one we would recommend unless you are craving Indian food, and are willing to pay...
Read moreA Culinary Symphony at Saffron by Sankalp in Aurora!
Saffron by Sankalp in Aurora is a haven for North Indian cuisine lovers. Hearing glowing recommendations from friends, I visited with my family, traveling all the way from London, and it was worth every mile. From the moment we entered, we were greeted with vibrant aromas, exquisite flavors, and the warmth of authentic Indian hospitality.
The diverse menu is a celebration of North Indian cuisine, catering to both traditional and adventurous palates. For starters, we indulged in Manchow Soup, Mushroom Tikka, and an Indo-Chinese Sizzler—all bursting with flavors that transported us straight to India. The main course, expertly recommended by the gracious owners, Mr. Jay Dave and Mr. Parth, included Paneer Butter Masala, Paneer Methi Garlic, Tandoori Roti, Dal Tadka, and Jeera Rice. Each dish was crafted to perfection, showcasing fresh ingredients and impeccable seasoning.
Mr. Jay and Mr. Parth are not only exceptional hosts but also passionate about their craft. Their generosity and dedication shine through in every aspect of the restaurant. They shared how the local Aurora community, predominantly Canadian, has embraced their flavors and service with open arms—a testament to the universal appeal of their culinary artistry.
My experience at Saffron by Sankalp was beyond five stars. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone seeking authentic Indian cuisine, warm hospitality, and a delightful family dining experience. Thank you, Jay and Parth, for making this one of the best Indian dining experiences in Canada. We’ll...
