Big Smoke Burger — Restaurant in Barrie

I’m not sure if I visited on an unusually bad day, but after reading so many glowing reviews, I was genuinely excited to try this place out. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the moment I walked in. The restaurant was visibly unclean—tables were dirty and clearly not cleaned properly, the garbage area was filthy, and the air was thick with the unpleasant smell of old oil. Despite only one staff member being present, I decided to give it a chance, hoping the food would redeem the atmosphere. It didn’t. My burger was excessively greasy, and with the first bite, grease poured onto my plate, soaking the bun and making it nearly inedible. The brisket was tough and dry—more reminiscent of a leather belt than something you'd want to eat. The fries were equally disappointing, tasting like they’d been cooked in stale oil. Overall, the experience was a complete letdown. The food, the atmosphere, and the cleanliness all fell far short of expectations. 2024: 3.5/5 - Summary: This place is great with some items and just okay with others.

4/5 - Milkshakes - despite the small size they are really good, just a shame they give you what I consider a small cup for $7 ish. 4/5 - The Funnel Cake fries are GOOD! Like really good! Again, would be nice if they gave you more as for the price you pay you get less than other places but they are definitely worth it so will return for these for sure! 3/5 - Burgers - Rather small for the price you pay though are nice tasting, not amazing, just good in terms of taste...if they gave you a decent sized burger (when compared with their competitors in the city) I would rate them a 4/5 but considering you get what amounts to a patty that looks the size of a JUNIOR burger at other places was not impressed...

3/5- Service: She was SUPER friendly but took very long to make a burger (14 minutes)...if it tasted better or was bigger I would not mind but with it being just okay...

Big Smoke is a great overall chain. They only serve fresh ingredients at all locations and the taste represents this. This specific location is a good size given their traffic and staff is very friendly and takes their time to make your food to the same standards, even when there’s a ‘rush’. I will mention the wait time is around 10 mins but if you don’t understand fresh food can’t be made in less then 10 mins then you should go eat Mcds processed food instead of complaining about a place like this.

EDIT: (after reading some other reviews before my class starts) Seems a lot of people are used to over salted processed foods but me personally I appreciate a place that doesn’t hide their food quality behind the condiments, you can ask for salt and that type of stuff if needed and they’re willing to help!
