In search of unusual “Daily Specials”? Something tasty, familiar, and a little too much effort to do at home? Have a look at today’s sandwich board. Not the usual offerings, right? These dishes require a lot of prep and careful plating! Chef Tony surpassed expectations. I had the cabbage rolls (served with a side Caesar) and my husband went for the breakfast. A picture’s with a thousand words, so see below. Aside from the food, which was excellent (no soggy croutons in this Caesar salad! homemade tomato sauce! perfectly cooked eggs and lots of bacon!) this restaurant has a nice vibe - music playing at the right volume level, warm colour scheme, the right ambient temperature, a combo of booths and tables, and a superb hostess who also served us, Chelsey. And, it’s the little things: asking where WE might like to be seated, watching that our coffee didn’t get too low, and ensuring lots of condiments and extras were actually on the table, without us asking for them, that leave a good impression and make us want to come back. This restaurant is in a plaza, near the Bayfield / Hanmer intersection, so if you’re at the Georgian Mall, Shoppers Drug Mart or the LCBO, they are mere steps away. Hours are daily 10:00 or 11:00, through to early evening. Thanks, Chef Tony and Hostess Chelsey! We’ll be back!

Came here with my partner, as we heard that this chain was featured on "You Gotta Eat Here" . I got the stuffed yorkshire pudding and my partner got the chicken parmesan. The stuffed yorkshire pudding looked good on the menu, but it was seriously lacking in flavour. It was served with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies on the side with no seasoning at all. The yorkshire pudding itself was quite dry and just tasted like stale bread. My partner's chicken parmesan was a bit better than the stuffed yorkshire pudding, but both dishes were not worth the price ($28 & $24 respectively). The quality & presentation of the food resembled food that you'd get at either a school or hospital cafeteria. The only redeeming factor was the portion sizes (they were huge), but since the food left much to be desired, we were not super excited about the leftovers. It was a full house when we were dining in, yet they only had 2 waitresses working, so the service was a bit slow as well (although our waitress was friendly). Overall, by far the worst food we've had in all of Barrie. We will not be returning.

We went there on a Saturday for lunch, I checked the reviews and it looked pretty good so I decided to give it a try. The place was empty, nothing special about the place. I looked at the menu and I couldn’t decide what to get since most of all places around this one sell the same. I didn’t really see any signature dish. So I ordered the bbq beef on a bun with sweet potato fries; and I also ordered a penne pasta with tomato sauce for my daughter with salad. My food was tasteless, the meat looked and tasted like it has been boiled and just poured a bbq sauce on top, the bread got soggy and it was really messy. The fries were tasteless too, they weren’t even seasoned with salt. The food was plain but I couldn’t even finish it because it made ny stomach upset right away. The portion for ny daughter’s plate was enormous (thats not always a good thing), so she couldn’t even finish her food. And it was only pasta with a pretzo sauce on top. I don’t understand why kids menu will hardly ever include any kind of protein in it. We left half of the plates full because the food was awful.

We have driven by The Iron Skillet many times; however, it was not until our son gave us a gift card that we stopped in. So happy that we did! Brandon was our server. We were seated in a booth right away. Drinks and straight to Mains. Brandon patiently described each special, as there were several. We chose the Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding and a special - the Crusted Pickerel with a dill and leek sauce, with rice and fresh veggies. It was all SO good, that we forgot to take pics until we were almost finished. Our biggest disappointment at restaurants is typically portion size. Not the case at The Iron Skillet. The prices are very fair and the portion sizes are huge. Other guests' food was being served and it all looked amazing - same generous portion sizes. Everything on our plate was impeccably-seasoned and cooked to perfection! We have leftovers for tomorrow. This is atypical, as we both have hearty appetites. Of course, the Funnel Cake Poutine had us at first glance. Don't let the location dissuade you from trying out this hidden gem. Our entire experience - the atmosphere, service and food - will ensure that we are repeat customers. Already looking forward...
