My boyfriend and I went to the restaurant on the Wednesday evening on January 15 2020. We ordered 2 entrees and 2 ramen. We were waiting patiently and excitedly because we heard good reviews from our friends. As the employee came with the food, the employee accidentally poured ramen on my boyfriend's sweater. Like HOT RAMEN. It could have ended with serious injuries, but luckily he was wearing one extra layer of shirt underneath the sweater. The employee apologized a lot, offering even money for dry cleaning but I was too busy cleaning out the ramen soup off the sweater I didn't focus on what he/she was saying. And I understand, mistakes can happen. The part I am mad and very disappointed is how the manager reacted to this. I don't even know if he was the manager or the owner because he didn't present himself and he didn't even take responsability of what happened in the restaurant. He did not come see us once until the end of our meal to offer a small dessert in return of what happened. Like yeah we will take it if it's the only thing you are offering, but are you inquiring that the shirt and sweater is worth your dessert? This sweater was even a present with memories and now after cleaning we can still see the stain of the ramen soup (we had to wash it several times to clean it decreasing the quality of the sweater). In my honest opinion, the manager should have been able to assist us right away after this incident happened. How do you leave such customer service until the end? What if serious injuries happened? He DIDN'T EVEN ASK IF ANYONE WAS HURT. It even made me think that he would not have acted the same way if we would have been presented as an inspector or food review person. At the end, I still paid full price for the meal. I tipped 15% because of the other waiters being aware of the situation and taking care of us, even the one who accidentally spilled ramen.
Aside from this, the food was good. This would have been a 5-star review if such disappointment would not have happened.
** I cannot reply on the owner's response so I will just rewrite it here. Just to be clear, we were not smiling at this situation, and if we wouldn't be smiling, I don't know what you would have expected us to do? Be mad? We didn't want to bother the other clients. Dry cleaning was mentioned kindly by the employee, but our thought was that we didn't want to take that money from the employee's pocket; we would have accepted it if would have been properly mentioned that the restaurant would be responsible for it - that part was not clear. Anyways, we are not looking for compensation or money. We just wanted to let you know our experience and how more professionally it could have been addressed. It is not the miss of attention we wanted to point out, but the miss of awareness and handling of...
Read moreThis was my very first Ramen experience so please note my comments are about the food and prep and not the authenticity of the Ramen itself as I have nothing to compare it to.
I took the red dragon soup which was recommended. The broth itself was good with complexe flavors and not a one note pony. Unfortunately the buck stopped there!
The egg is mentioned to be "soft boiled" meaning a little runny with a silky texture. It wasn't... it was almost hard boiled I was hoping for the yolk to mix in with the broth and elevate it but that didn't happen.
Next, I added pork belly to the soup as I was told they are thin slices and not very big and seeing there was only 2 I added the 6 piece option. The portion was ok, I don't know what it is traditionally. However, the pork was clearly old and had this "fridge" taste. As in when you leave something uncovered or not sealed in the fridge for a few days.
This is not a 30$ soup quality. Quite the subpar dish that's somewhat redeemed by the broth.
The appetizers were fair. Nothing exceptional once again to justify the price point. The Gyoza was very underwhelming to say the least and not restaurant quality.
I get that inflation is real and costs have gone up and I empathize with restaurants. However, nothing excuses a poor execution and food handling when delivering a 30$ soup. I have no problem paying the price tag if the quality and culinary experience are on par. But a 100$ for 2 people for appetizers and soup you expect the soup to be life changing which it was...
Read moreThe food is delicious, but our second experience there was dreadful.
We knew it would be potentially quite busy on a Saturday night so we called beforehand to make reservations.
They do not take reservations so we had to just show up.
When arriving, we were told it would be an approximately 25 minute wait. They offered to call us once the table was ready so we waited in the car. This made sense given the lack of space in their entrance area.
After waiting in our car for 30 minutes, we called for an update and were told that they were still nowhere close to having our table ready.
Frustratingly, we had to leave at this point given the excessive wait with no end in sight.
They finally called us over an hour after we first arrived to tell us a table was ready. They don't take reservations, but they make the customers show up and wait over an hour in the cold instead.
More work for them in calling waiting customers throughout the night and much more frustrating for the customer.
While it's certainly difficult in this setting to predict how long other customers will stay, the estimate in terms of the wait time was so far off that it would be better without an estimate at all.
It would make much more sense to offer reservations and perhaps a limited sitting time.
I will very gladly update this review immediately if such a bad system is updated. The food really is delicious, but this experience was...
