"Oh my god" was the first reaction I had upon receiving my food. Sorry to mention a competitor, but I thought a certain "Hot Shoppe" was the only place for roti in Burlington. Sorry folks, but I was wrong, Lena's holds her weight and then some as quite possibly the roti Queen of Burlington!!! (But you will have to try for yourself to see if you agree). I will happily elaborate.

I visited on a Tuesday at 4pm, it wasn't very busy but not expected either. I was greeted very kindly by a lady I assume owns/manages the shop, if not she was wholesome, very courteous and obviously confident in the quality of her dishes. I ordered a "regular" sized boneless goat roti, dhalpuri (chickpea) style. I was scared to order a small as other establishments I've been to in Guelph charge a lot for such little portions, so I opted for what I thought I would get a typical handheld lunch portion at $17+tax for the reg, but I was mistaken as I received a BRICK! A whole dinner meal the size of the entire paper plate it was served on. And trust me I'm not complaining, simply impressed, as that's how it should be! Surprisingly oversized meals not disappointingly undersized (I'm a hungry guy, shoot me for it lol).

Anyways, this roti was not only large but tasty. Flavourful as I've always known it to be, tasted homemade not factory made. Huge chunks of meaty yet tender boneless goat, such a savoury curry and the hot sauce was enough to make my face drip, as usual. However I suspect she may have went a little easy on me when I asked for "hot", which well, look at my skin colour, understandably so, but it was still fiery enough to satisfy a heat seeker.

I paired it with a Trinidad-based Pineapple soda, which had all the perfectly tangy and refreshing artificial fruit flavours I desired to balance out the spicy meal on a hot afternoon. This is one opportunity I always go with an exotic soft drink. And they had a LOT of options for Caribbean drinks, many of which I've never seen before at any other shop.

I'm not sure if it just wasn't turned on yet, but there wasn't AC inside the restaurant and it was a little uncomfortably hot (I had just finished a long walk) but thankfully they have tables and chairs outside the glass doors like a little raised patio above Brant St which was perfectly breezy and refreshing.

All in all, Lena's is 100% worthy of your next Caribbean lunch/dinner, I encourage you to give them a shot. Perhaps you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was to realize the Burlington roti throne may have been overtaken, or at least given some healthy competition. Monopolies are never good, but thankfully Lena's always will be! Can't wait to return for other staples like a regular Jerk Chicken...

Ok fan. Over 20 million of you asked about the Lenas roti and doubles. No need to drive far anymore! It’s now in Burlington too.

Lean’s Doubles has truly lived up to the hype! The “Double R Team,” Reshma and REN, deserve a big shoutout for their outstanding service. They were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. Their positive energy created a fun yet professional atmosphere, and the place itself was clean, tidy, and well-maintained.

Now, onto the food! The doubles were absolutely delicious—definitely worthy of a solid 5-star rating. The roti and chicken were just as amazing, with the roti being exceptionally soft and flavorful. I also appreciated that they offered vegetarian options and a daily special deal, making the menu budget-friendly and accessible. The prices were reasonable and comparable to other places in the industry.

If I had to offer one small critique, it would be that the chickpeas in the doubles could use a little more cooking to make them softer, as is typical with doubles. However, this didn’t detract from the overall taste and experience.

The only drawback is the parking situation. Street parking is paid during the week, but luckily, there’s free meter parking on weekends. Additionally, there’s a parking lot behind the building that offers free parking on weekends.

Overall, an amazing experience! I highly recommend Lean’s Doubles for anyone looking for tasty food and excellent service. Reshma and REN, you guys are doing a fantastic...

I called this place to order some doubles. I'm from Trinidad, so I know what doubles should taste like. This wonderful establishment only made the cut because they are located 5 minutes from where i work. That's right, their food has no flavor. They put some kinda sweet sauce in the doubles that makes it taste even worse and their roti taste like a 59 year old construction guy with black finger nails made it. I told the guy I want 3 doubles with mild hot sauce and another 3 doubles without anything. Then, just so they don't put their signature sweet sauce in like I ask not to, I told the proud gentleman again what I wanted. I just wanted to make sure he understands. Instead of listening he proceed to talk right over me. I kept talking to see if he will stop and let me finish but no, he kept going because he was offended I didn't want his amazing sweet sauce. I told him we can't talk at the same time yet he kept going. I canceled the order because of his rude attitude. He said ok, see you next time. There will never be a next time lol. Learn to humble yourself and listen to the customers. They are the ones who paying your bills. Never...

Update - Thanksgiving October Special. Buy 2 doubles get 1 free. Prepare yourself (yuhself) for one of the most authentic experience for Trinbagonian Street Food outside the twin islands. This was undoubtedly one of the best doubles I have had in Canada so far and is the BESSSST (bess doubles). Now the pics I have shared are because doubles dont get enough talk time. Further the stainless steel box with warmers and sauces was a class act to see your food made infront of you as it is on the streets in Trinidad. The location was clean well kept and neatly tucked in Burlington. I cannot wait for a Hamilton location to come fast enough. Lena's has 5 current locations across the GTA and I believe one of thr best deployments of a franchise to get the Trini scene recognised without a hyperfocused central location is PEEL region. Awesome job Lena's team and great service on this Carnival Tuesday 2024.
