I’ve only been there 1 time before this visit (8/14/2022) and it was probably 10 years ago. So I decided to try it again. The pro’s about the experience we’re as followed
The burger was really good and the toppings were fresh and perfect portion. The fresh cut fries were great as well and the unlimited/bottomless feature was amazing because I took them up on a 2nd batch which was large! Not just a handful which I was expecting. The server was kind enough to bring out both bbq sauces because I Coudnt decide what to choose. No extra charge and her idea. Usually places can’t help them self and grab $1.49 for $0.02 cents of sauce. So that was cool. (Smokey bbq was better then bold) my wife ordered a lettuce wrapped burger and a Caesar salad with a Diet Coke. Her food was really good. Salad had plenty of toppings and dressing. Diet Coke comes in a giant measuring cup. Pop was as it should be. Food taste and quality and quantity overall I’d say 9/10. Really solid meal.
What could be improved in my experience to give my google rating a 5 star. The pop in the glass measuring cup and I remembered this from 10 years ago. It looks fun but in actuality it’s cumbersome to handle and the straw flops around because more then half isn’t submerged. Also I think staff is told deliver 1 glass container per visit. As I had to ask for a refill and yes 10 years ago (upper James) I had to do the same. It’s just my beliefs they think it’s enough for the meal and sort of ignore it. So not refilled without asking and the straw floating around and takes up more space on a smaller 2 seater table. I don’t care for the “cool factor of it”.
Server was great taking our order. Suggested an extra bbq sauce. Knew the menu quite well and the food was brought out exactly how we ordered with a couple small modifications. Issue was the menu it’s self is a little Complicated and lots of words. I am a pretty sharp guy and can read (for those of you who want to blame my intelligence) I could see new customers like my self being slightly overwhelmed while selecting things and the process. None the less the server was able To help navigate and place my order. Her only downfall was after the food arrived (timely fashion) she was not very at tentative. Water sat empty and pop was 1/8 full. I had to grab napkins from the table beside me because the 1 you get was not enough as the lettuce burger gets messy and I was drowning my burger in my bbq sauces. She was around but didn’t really stop by. I had to flag her down for a 2nd round of Frys and napkins. The restaurant wasn’t overly business for reference. I understand if the place is jammed to expect small delays. Another lady brought the Frys and napkins and was friendly. Over all just the container for the drinks and a couple extra napkins and 1 check in would have gotten a 5 star.
We will return and it won’t be...
Read moreThe Works is a restaurant that at one point I really enjoyed, about a year ago I dined here and was impressed enough to recommend it to friends & family. Most people seemed to enjoy it however I started to hear mixed reviews from people starting a couple of months ago.
Today (11/27/2014) I ate here and my experience was rather poor, mostly because of the issues with the food which I will outline below.
Issues Overcooked Burger, both myself and my uncle had different burgers, I had a garlic sauce type burger and he had a blue cheese burger. Both of them were overcooked, I wasn't able to see his personally but I'll take his word for it. My burger was cooked to the point where the pink that the waitress mentioned in her serving introduction wasn't actually present until I got into the dead center of the burger. It was a medium to almost medium well done burger.
Hair in food, I pointed it out to my uncle while eating, I won't send something back if it's on the outside of the food (bun, etc) which it was. I typically won't send something back unless I find two or more hairs, if that happens I'll simple leave and not pay. Luckily there was only one that I saw in my food.
Spicy Chips, half of the side order that came with my meal was inedible, it wasn't an issue with being soggy it was quite literally an uncooked slice of potato that was unbelievably chewy. Upon pointing this out I was greeted with an excuse by our waitress, she mentioned that it happens when they sit around for too long.
Because I didn't want to cause a scene I didn't argue with her, I cooked in a few local restaurants and currently butcher seafood for a living. What I experienced was a raw potato that wasn't cooked long enough for the thickness of it.
Burgers not coming with Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, for $15 I expect these to be included with my burger, fortunately for me it was, unfortunately for my uncle it wasn't included and as a result he had to send his food back to get his burger completed.
As I previously stated for the price that is being charged ($15) these toppings should absolutely be included as the product we received is definitely not costing anything more than several dollars to prepare. Having come to this conclusion I believe that the prices here are far to expensive for the quality of food being presented to customers.
When you consider all of these issues I cannot in my right mind recommend anyone I know to go eat here, it was a rather poor experience and is a completely opposite experience to what I originally had when The Works was newer. Whether or not this is a change of staff or due to cutting costs I do not know but I believe that if this trend continues The Works won't last long in Burlington as more and more people have poor...
Read moreMy friends and I stopped by the Burlington location for dinner before catching the GoTrain into Toronto for a concert. We walked into the restaurant and it was empty.
I advised the server that I was on medication that limited how much I can eat. Not wanting to waste food, I asked if I could order a smaller size burger such as the lunch size (4 oz) or a children's size burger. The server spoke to the Manager and said it was not possible as people were taking advantage of the lunch special trying to extend it. She said I could just take the remainder home, which was not an option as we were from out of town and were heading to the concert. I told the server I wasn't trying to take advantage of the special, I just couldn't physically eat a 8oz burger and didn't want to waste food. I even offered to pay the full price of the 8oz burger for the smaller burger. She went back to her manager, and I was again denied.
If it wasn't for my friends really wanting to grab dinner there before the concert, I would have just paid for my pop and left as I felt I was being treated like I was trying to cheat the restaurant, when I was actually offering to pay more. As the restaurant was empty, no one would even known I was given the smaller burger if that was their issue. I wound up just having cactus cut fries as that was the only thing reasonable on the menu that I could eat.
I find it really disappointing that they were unwilling to make an accommodation for a...
