Chicken Avenue — Restaurant in Calgary

Normally love this place but after recent events have since changed my mind. I ordered their 3 sauces, soy, spicy, and sweet, to be put on my chicken and even paid the extra amount for this to happen. (Thru skip, there is only one choice and then an option for 'additional sauces', where ticked them, paid the charge, then mentioned I'd like all three sauces put On my chicken, instead of how they usually come, on the side.) Immediately received a phone call from the restaurant after I put my order thru, during which the lady asked what I meant in my skip order. I explained that I ordered their 3 sauces, but instead of only 1 on the chicken and 2 on the side, I'd like all 3 put on my chicken. She said that was impossible. I asked why and she said something along the lines of "they've never tasted it before, they can't guarantee the taste quality". I explained that I realize it's an uncommon request, but I've had their chicken many times, all 3 different sauces separately and would like a mixture of them all put on my chicken instead. She said she could only do 1 piece one flavour, a 2nd a different flavour, and so on. She said something else which was a little unclear so after I asked "pardon", she handed the phone off to someone else. This new lady said the same thing. I tried to reassure them that if it didn't taste good, I wouldn't leave a negative review or anything silly, because I wanted something off the menu that they don't normally do, and that it was my choice to order this and I was willing to take the risk. I was handed off to someone else. She again said it was impossible and then handed me off to someone else, this time a kitchen worker who told me they "don't mix sauces there bc they put one sauce per bowl". Despite my frustration, I told her, in a very calm and collected way that I knew that it actually was possible if she grabbed a different bowl, explained I work in a kitchen myself, and verbally gave her 2 detailed options of ways of putting the 3 sauces on my chicken. Again, I was told how incredibly impossible it was (not sure if it's because of a policy, or if they only have 3 bowls in the entire restaurant, it was never explained to me why) and after expressing my disappointment she tried to hang up on me. I ended up telling her that I'll just mix the 3 sauces myself when I get my chicken and use my own bowl, but then I'd like all 3 on the side please. She answered "yeah, bye". I get my chicken and it's covered in their soy garlic sauce, and they put the other 2 on the side. Now actually upset, I didn't even grab a bowl and instead opened up the sauces and dumped them on my chicken and gave them a quick flip around in its to go package. Done. 5 seconds later I'm mowing my chicken and it's the most delicious sauce ever. Didn't even need a bowl. Don't know why it was so impossible. Was it worth the hassle? Absolutely not. I'm not paying an additional charge for a lengthy phone call then having to fix my own...

Edit Nov 17/23 - I havent been here for a bit, usually go to the north Wow Chicken so I didnt know they changed their name and some of the menu. The lady was so nice! I asked about the name change, the new food items,she let us try some things. I always get the Gang Jeong spice but she also gave me the Mala Buldak sauce to try - hhhoootttttttttt! Wow, only a little and I was sweating! As she gave it to me,she said she liked that sauce....good on you lol, that's a very hot sauce! We had the mozzarella K-dog with sugar to try, that was good too! We then had our usual lunch special. Little different with having a packet of bulgogi powder but it worked, and the chicken thighs were 3 large rather than some smaller ones. All good, nothing bad to say! This always was my favorite Wow Chicken location, so I'm glad they stuck around and now serve even a little more under their new name!

I cannot say enough about this place except that it is named very accordingly!! Between the sauce (spicy BBQ), the breading, the chicken.... It's amazing!!! Ordered the bulgogi fries....man! Crispy and full of flavor! My only regret was that I didn't try...

ZERO STARS!!!! We got food poisoning here! This happened last year. Okay so the first time I was here were with my friends and the food was great and they even went out of their way to bring our food to our tables since we were a big group (they dont normally bring the food to your table, that's what one of the employees told us). After that great experience, I figured to bring my family here another day. Big mistake! After my family (6people)and I ate here in the afternoon in the summer of 2017, we ALL got food poisoning afterwards! I got severely sick the most out of the 6 of us. My brother checked online for their history of health violations and he found they've had many health violations in the past. My brother notified Alberta Health Services to inspect the place.

I will never go back here or to any WOW chicken locations. I'm too traumatized. The rest of my family were lucky that they weren't severely as sick as me, but still that's so bad, all of us got sick! It was the worst sick days of my life.

I would have given this place 4 star rating after my first time here. But after my second time with my family, it's...
