If you're a fan of Korean food and looking for a hidden gem in Calgary, you have to check out SSO Yummy in Chinatown! I recently visited this restaurant and was blown away by their delicious Jjolmyeon. The dish was a perfect combination of chewy, spicy and tangy flavors, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. SSO Yummy is definitely a must-visit for all Korean food enthusiasts. The restaurant is located in the heart of Chinatown and has a cozy ambiance that makes for a great dining experience. The service is also fantastic, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Overall, I highly recommend SSO Yummy to anyone who loves Korean food.

I have been going to this place since I was a student. They used to be in the basement level in the plaza one block away and worked their way up. I will always remember the first time I was there and realized they only take cash, not credit card. I was short 80 cents for the food as I didn't carry enough cash with me. The owner told me that "you can pay me next time", which I had always make sure to tip a bit extra everytime after that. Now that I moved further and only get a chance to go back sometimes but I always try to. Their kimbap has always been affordable for student and very delicious. Can't wait to come back next time.

I’m really for supporting local businesses lately, so I’ve decided to try random places around my neighbourhood one at a time and I am so happy to have found this little Korean place. First of all, the service was great and the owners were super friendly. Second, food is super cheap, especially the combos. I really wasn’t expecting much from an $11 meal, but the portions were big and I wasn’t expecting the additional soup, salad, and kimchi, which were all very good quality wise. I can’t wait to try more of what they have on their menu and I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone!

The owner/chef? Was very kind and sweet. My friend is Korean and she says the food is really good and authentic, so I tried it with her, and they were all wonderful! Cash only!!

I had the $9.99 combo and it was really filling; it includes fish cake soup, which I really like, it has enough fish balls in there and soup for an appetizer of sorts; it had Kimbap (which was huge and full of stuff in it: artificial crab meat, fish cake strip, pickled Daikon, carrots, cucumbers, a root whose name my friend forgot! :), and of course egg!); the Ddeok bokki was also phenomenal (I've had a craving for this for a while, so I've been eating loads, so I know it's good and my friend loves it too!), it had lots of sauce with enough rice cakes to really fill you up; and of course, the hodo gwaja which is a red bean dessert with pieces of walnut in it--it was wonderfully crunchy outside and soft inside with right amount of red bean paste and walnut, I certainly loved it! It is totally worth the money!

My friend had the blood sausage, or soon dae and she said that it was also really good! We also ordered bboong uh bbang and the filling was good (we ordered it to go and it got soft and soggy in the bag, so it's best to leave it exposed and let it to cool and get slightly crunchy before eating it. The wait was decent since they made everything when we ordered it, so everything was warm and delicious.

I already promised to come back...

If I want to impress, I take my guests to sso yummy.

affordable, authentic, and amazing food from a lovely mom & pop shop on the edge of chinatown. their tteokbokki is perfectly cooked rice cakes in a sweet and spicy gochujang sauce. all their kimbaps are comforting and filling, with tuna/original/spam being my favourite ones. their bibimbap (tuna) boasts generous portions and fresh ingredients. my partner adores their stir fried blood sausage (features a slightly numbing spice and sautéed onions and cabbage) and their bungeo-ppang (fish shaped pastry filled with either custard or red bean) are the perfect sweet and soft end to a very pleasant dining experience.

overall one of the best restaurants in the...

This is my favourite place in Calgary to get kimbap . The kimbap is consistently the same every time, and is always made fresh and ready in less than 15 minutes. The prices have remained low over the years even with rising food costs which I appreciate. Personally I don’t enjoy the other menu items as much, but can vouch for their kimbap and blood sausage. My personal favourite is the tuna kimbap and the spam kimbap. You can also get the yummy combo that includes the kimbap, tteokbokki, custard filled fish shaped custard bun, and soup (super filling and hits all the right spots).

The family running this business has always been very sweet and kind, and I hope I can continue to grab a quick snack here for...
