It used to be a good place years ago, I was surprised to see the ladies bathroom was dirty. I arrived today to the Pub at 2:20pm and there were no people at the bar, I ordered my drinks also getting ready to order my food, when I was approaching the bar to order my chicken wings, a large group of people arrived in front of me, the bar tender saw me that I was ready to order my food as we talked seconds before, he proceeded to prepare the order of that group, so I sat again on my table waiting for him to be free, then he was waiving at us and talking loud to me from his station trying to take my order, he couldnt hear me for the loud music, so I finally screaming back to him I order my two orders of "baked" chicken wings. We waited like 40 mints for our food to be served, when I tried a chicken wing it tasted like boiled chicken with warm sauce on the top, so I called him and told him that the chicken skin was very soft, I asked him if it was possible to put them on a fry pan to made them more crispy and I explained the consistency of the chicken skin, he denied all kind of help so asked him if I could return the dish, he denied once again explained that is how they served them there, no empathy or care shown on his end, I proceed to stand up and pay him for my two drinks and leave. I am lucky that one of the owners just arrived and saw the incident, he approached me at the exist to address what was the problem on the food, he apologized to us showing he cared and wanted to make sure we were not charged for the food, also that we were explained on how they cooked their chicken wings, which never happened with our server/bar tender. I suggest to put someone else more professional at the bar, someone who understands more the client's culture and how to process with a better attitude a...
Read moreBIZZARE encounter with owner (??)... I visited Hop In Brew for the first time EVER a few weeks ago and I was so excited about it. I loved the atmosphere, was having a great time with a friend of mine and we had good rapport with the staff. After we finished up, we decided to explore the house since it was my first time and we walked upstairs and saw the pool tables, etc and the decor. Then as we headed downstairs we kept going down because I wanted to see the basement. We didn't even GET to the bottom stair (which only then did I realize wasn't more eating/drinking area, but rather storage) and this old man began to yell at us to get out. There was NO signage to deter us from going downstairs, my friend had to use the washroom and assumed it might be down there, and it was FULLY LIT. This man assumed the worst and I felt quite a bit of prejudice from him as his first instinct was to yell. My friend and I calmly explained we didn't know it was off limits and we wouldn't have gone if there was a sign, and we apologized. We proceeded to leave the restaurant and when we walked out the door realized this man had FOLLOWED us out and said "Yeah, don't ever come back here again." We were in disbelief and asked what he had said, to which he again stated "I said, never come back!". I am absolutely shocked. Did this man assume we were going to steal something or damage property? We weren't even drunk or rowdy... and we had a very enjoyable time up until this point. Not too stoked on this and I hope I never see this man again, as I would like to visit this establishment again...
Read moreI have worked in the beltlne for many years. I walked past the yellow house amoung the sea of concrete and was inticed by the ambiance. The cozy, comforting, nostalgic fell from the street pulled me in. Unfortunately that's were it ended. I have tried over the years to give this yyc original a chance, then another chase. But the red flags I get when I come in keep me wanting to leave before my first drink. Exclusivity is sought after in, but where i hoped I recieved the pretentious. The narcissistic vibe of "its not me its you" that I have grow to identify is glowing red when I speak to the staff. Not interested, not concerned not here to give me value for my dollar. but to see how much I'll take before I realize I'm being pillaged. From not having items on the menu, to convincing me i should love the the swill passed off as mixology (gas lighting anyone). So here I am forced to drink something I don't want, restriced from were I want to sit (not good enough for the upper level) and being shoved and pushed in my seat by the ridiculous long line to the under staffed bar. For my own mental health and self worth I must leave you. I and the rest of calgary deserve better. We deserve the basics and you... you can't use lipstick to disguise the truth anymore. Good bye Civic Tavern. And to the remaining few still entranced by your outer guide. I will be waiting for you on the other side. Self respect and common decency can be yourstoo. Just walk out the doors and...
