New location lives up to its reputation of beautiful design and top notch service. Indian retro chic vibes with a groovy playlist in the background. I can’t name all of our dishes. In fact I can’t recall any of the names. Everything was very tasty. The spices really shine in each dish and you can smell them easily without any hunching over your plate. However, the one issue we both agreed on was that some dishes were over-sauced and most were overly salty. I like salt, but this was way too salty. We didn’t say a word though because everything else was perfect. BTW we had the Taste of Calcutta option because we simply don’t know enough about Indian cuisine and appreciate something that would give us an overall experience. It was a lot of food, but still, we also ordered these sort of wraps that were crazy good. The wrap itself was like if a gyro pita and a croissant had a baby - flakey, yet chewy. And bendable enough to wrap some Indian deliciousness inside! Cocktail menu seemed limited for us but it was certainly true to the restaurant theme. We sat at the bar and our bartender from London was a really cool and kind host. As was our waiter whom appeared to be the manager as he was dressed so sharp with such a professional demeanour… without any pretentiousness. We found all the staff to be quite warm and friendly. For my friend’s birthday they all signed a birthday card (Calcutta Cricket Club card) which they gave to him at the end of the service. It was a really thoughtful touch. They provided free coat check service with a very cool retro metal claim tag. Again, really driving that old school Indian theme home!

We dined in on a Saturday night. It wasn’t too busy, we arrived early for half off bar snacks. Tried the bone marrow and paneer, both were excellent. We also had a delicious mandarin sour on tap. My wife has food allergies and the sever (whose name was Jorden, she was great!) and chef were very accommodating, which is always nice. We tried a few chutneys which were tasty, but they were delivered without the naan so we couldn’t really eat them. The naan is advertised as garlic but we didn’t taste any garlic. We had the prawn curry for dinner. It was only ok and this is the reason I’m deducting a star. It was pretty bland and the portion was pretty small. For an Indian place the curry needs to be on point and there is a lot of room to improve on this particular dish. We finished off with a chai and a mango lassi. The chai was nicely balanced and tasty. The mango lassi was good but they put the smoothie on ice which we thought was unnecessary and lead to not really getting much to drink. They were priced well so it wasn’t too bad. Overall, we would probably go back to try other things because the food quality and service were generally good with a few minor things. Worth trying if you are in the mood for Indian.

Today, I visited the new Calcutta Cricket Club location for brunch with my significant other. Everything was wonderful—the food, the ambiance, the weather, and the location. However, I had a somewhat odd interaction with our server, and I’m sharing this experience because I genuinely like this restaurant and would like to return soon. I ordered the new Express Thali from the menu. The server asked if I had any food allergies, and I responded that I didn’t, as there were no ingredients listed on the menu that I needed to avoid. I also requested a side of tamarind chutney. The server then informed me that the Express Thali already includes a pineapple chutney and asked if I still wanted the tamarind chutney. I replied that I couldn’t have pineapple due to a health condition. The server asked, “Why can’t you have pineapple? Is it an allergy?” I reiterated that I couldn’t have pineapple because of my health condition. At that point, the server became defensive and told me that I should have mentioned earlier that I was allergic to pineapple. I clarified that I’m not allergic to pineapple but have temporary dietary restrictions that prevent me from eating it. He said "Well it's the same thing". He then offered to replace the pineapple chutney with tamarind chutney. I believe this situation could have been handled differently. I don’t have food allergies, but I do have dietary restrictions, and I can’t list every single ingredient I need to avoid each time I visit a restaurant. I’m attaching a screenshot with this review where you can see that the menu lists “chutney,” not “pineapple chutney.” If I had known it contained pineapple, I would have requested a substitution from the start. This experience left me with a bitter taste, and I felt compelled to share it. I believe the staff could benefit from additional training on how to handle situations like this.

This place is definitely overhyped and not the most authentic. Great decor and good service, but food was extremely disappointing. 1. $6 for a medium sized basmati rice - my friend and I ordered this to share, the portion was horrendously tiny for 2 people to share. We ended up ordering additional garlic naan and small basmati rice. 2. $15 Dalna curry (potatoes and cauliflower) - the curry broth was thin and meh; tiny chunks of cauliflowers and cubed potatoes given. It was mostly broth and barely any potatoes or vegetables. I could count with my fingers with probably about 5 tiny cubed potatoes and 4 pieces of cauliflower chunks in the curry. 3. $20 Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken) - this was alright, 3-4 pieces of chicken thighs in the curry so I’d say it’s quite generous. But it is still overpriced with the amount given. 4. Disappointed to find out that there’s no biryani on the menu. Very surprising for a place that prides itself as an authentic Indian restaurant. Overall, you’re much better off eating somewhere else that offers more authentic Indian food with generous portion. I still don’t get the hype for this place and would never visit again.

Update: Went again last night. Only had drinks, quick bite and desserts. Drinks were great. Carrot gajerela was too sweet and had condensed milk on top. It was hard to finish. Mishti doi was much more balanced and will try again. Chicken Kathi roll was great but lamb kathi roll felt too greasy. ———— This place is decent, good ambience, clean but the food and food preparation orchestration needs work. The paneer dish and fish was fairly ordinary. I was hoping the fish to be more flavourful. I am not certain if the naan was made fresh as it arrived cold and was fairly thick. Sweet rice with fish was interesting but the white chutney was fairly mild. Comparing Kati rolls with what I had in India, these need a bit more work. The washrooms were clean and had good quality products. The reason I’m writing this is because I have higher expectations from this place. I’m big fan of Calcutta cuisine (is that what they’re targeting? I’m not sure) and I hope this place improves and delivers food of the same quality as the ambience they’ve created. I’ll try to be back is about six months and hope they improve.

If you are Indian , please do not consider this , you will have some expectations and the food will be nowhere near. Ambience is attractive, servers are good , they do their best , but I don’t know what’s with their food , it’s just not it . Quantity is very very less . We ordered we ordered Papdi Chaat and vegetable Chop , we were literally searching for Papdi in Paapdi Chaat and when Vegetable Chop came , it was served with 3 pieces in a fancy way on a small plate , costs around $14- $15 i guess . I was in shock and at that point my partner was like let’s just leave the ordered food , pay and leave . I still made him wait for the main course , naan came , all burnt , and we ordered salad , came with no chillies because the Paneer was literally tasteless , so we asked the server for chillies , they charged us extra for one green Chilli . I was shocked and irritated at that point . Server was really good and did his job really good , but they failed miserably with the food. (. The picture is only of half naan , the other piece was burnt too and tasted so bad to eat )
