We had the pleasure of dining at Native Tongues recently, and we must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable - attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Our server made excellent recommendations, ensuring that each dish and drink choice perfectly complemented our preferences. Speaking of drinks, they were absolutely delightful. The cocktail selection was impressive, and each drink was expertly crafted with precision and care. Whether it was a classic margarita or a specialty mezcal concoction, every sip was a taste sensation. And let's not forget about the food. Each dish we ordered was a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. From the fresh guacamole to the flavorful tacos, every bite was a testament to the skill of the chefs in the kitchen. The attention to detail and use of high-quality ingredients were evident in every dish. Overall, I can't recommend Native Tongues enough. With its excellent service, delicious drinks, and mouthwatering food, it's definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.

As a Mexican who’s been a regular here for the past two years, it’s about time I review Native tongues. Overall I just want to say that while not the most authentic Mexican cuisine, it is pretty on the nose and very consistent at that. They have very unique dishes that do remind me of home and Chef Enrique is dedicated to bringing these flavours to YYC. The food is quality and there’s multiple items on the menu I’ve tried and loved. I do have to dock a star for price. I understand modern, upscale, downtown, but even the fanciest restaurants in Mexico offer complimentary chips and salsa, so justifying $15 for fried tortillas and salsas is insane. Tacos sit at an innocent $5-$6 but really at up, and as good as the drinks are, they are also a painful add up once the bill comes. We’ve gone there for a “quick snack” that adds up to $40 for two people and a proper dinner is no less than $100 for two. I have no problem paying a big bill when the food is worth it, and I keep coming back, so this says something. But its still worth mentioning how overpriced it is.

As a Mexican constantly traveling between Canada, the US and Mexico, trying new Mexican restaurants has become a hobby of mine. I reserve 5 stars only for the very best Mexican food. Native Tongues is certainly deserving of 5 stars. To start, al pastor tacos are the most authentic I’ve had in Canada. True to the roots, cooked in a trompo (gyro), nicely marinated with a touch of pineapple. These al pastor tacos truly tasted like home. The carnitas, carne asada and quesabirria are also great choices and a must try. For drinks, I’ve tried the Paloma and classic michelada with the michelada being my recommendation as it not only tastes great but also tastes like one straight from Mexico City. The only item that was not as great was their Horchata. I’d skip it as it’s a very small size and the flavor is ok at best. Lastly, be aware the prices are high for the food you’re getting. While the food is amazing, the portion sizes are quite small.

Hands down I will be back here because the ambience was phenomenal. My son loved it there as well and he knows food I take him to the best places in Calgary. He said to himself and hes eating a lot of Mexican dad these are some fine tacos. We tried the pork Belly it was phenomenal and it had it had traces of pineapple. We moved on to the ribbon and it was done beautifully and And garnishes were well paired. We also tried the red snapper which we really enjoyed as well it was battered and had a crunchy field to it of course. Then we ordered some of the student meat we try the chicken chicken. And we also tried the Barbacoa. And I recommend the Barbacoa in fact they have a platter right that you get like 8 or 12 of them or something we're doing that next time. Got a nice side dish as well of extra garnishes with these hot peppers we didn't realize how hot they would be a couple of them packed a good punch.

Disappointing. I ordered a torta through Uber eats, the item is advertised as crispy bolillo containing beans, cilantro, guacamole, sauce, onions and a choice of protein (I chose chicken). When my torta arrived, upon closer inspection I realized, to my surprise, there was NO guac, zero guac, nada. It is to be noted that this torta was supposed to contain pollo asado and the amount of chicken in the torta was laughable! the torta was predominantly just bread with beans and a tiny amount of chicken for $20. Definitely not what I was expecting, or was advertised, most definitely not worth the price. Quality control of the food before delivery is REALLY lacking. My fiance ordered a quesabirria. His thoughts: the flavour was okay but the portion size was upsetting, it's just ONE regular size birria quesadilla (the size of a regular corn taco) for $16.95... As a Mexican food connoisseur, I'm not a fan.

Native Tongues has a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that sets the tone for a great dining experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive vibe. Most of the meats are packed with flavor and cooked to perfection—definitely a highlight of the menu. However, the carne asada was a bit of a letdown compared to the other options as it was bland. One thing to note is the horchata. While it looks nice with its cinnamon-sprinkled top, it’s more of a whole milk drink than traditional horchata, which might disappoint those expecting the authentic version for $6. The street tacos taste great, but at $5 each for just a couple of bites, they do feel a bit overpriced. Overall, it's a great spot for tacos with a cool atmosphere and awesome staff, just be prepared for some menu quirks and higher prices.
