An Unexpected Delight at St. James Corner Restaurant & Irish Pub

Sometimes, serendipity leads us to a memorable experience, and that's precisely what happened during my recent visit to St. James Corner Restaurant & Irish Pub. It was a delightful accident, as I had initially planned to meet a friend at another restaurant. However, I couldn't be happier with the outcome, as the establishment exceeded all expectations and won me over with its warm atmosphere, exceptional service, and authentic Irish charm.

Upon entering the establishment, I was greeted by a beautiful waitress who immediately made me feel welcome. Her genuine hospitality was the epitome of the Irish warmth and friendliness that I had heard so much about. Even though I was not a regular, she gave me the VIP treatment from the moment I walked in. The attentive service she provided made my visit truly unforgettable.

Though my stay was brief, I couldn't help but take in the cozy atmosphere and inviting ambiance of the pub. The decor was charming and reflected the essence of a traditional Irish pub with its dark wood furnishings, historical memorabilia, and intimate lighting. It was an ideal setting to unwind, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet drink.

Although I didn't have the chance to savor the food, I could tell from the tantalizing aromas and the satisfied faces of fellow patrons that the cuisine was authentic and delectable. The menu seemed to offer a wide range of traditional Irish dishes and pub favorites, enticing me to return for a proper meal in the future.

As I reluctantly took my leave, I made a promise to myself that I would return to St. James Corner Restaurant & Irish Pub, not just for the exceptional service, but also to experience more of what this delightful establishment has to offer. I wholeheartedly give it a well-deserved 5 stars and eagerly look forward to...

We were in town for the weekend for business and had a great meal and wonderful service Friday night, so we thought we would enjoy again Sunday night, Aug 18th. This night the music was overly loud and hard to talk over and our waitress, Nikol, didn't come to our table for so long that we thought she may not have known we came in. She finally came by to give us menus and then disappeared for a so long that another waitress had to flag her down. She finally came back and took our drink and food order since we were ready. Drinks took a long time to arrive and then the food came before the appetizer we had ordered. The steak was more well done then ordered and the fish and chips were overcooked and greasy. My wife didn't care for the beer that she had ordered and I had no problem drinking it and paying for that one. We ordered another well before our meals came, and her replacement beer didnt arrive until after we had finished eating. When she tried her new beer, it was the exact same one she had disliked instead of the new beer she had ordered. Not only did she not get to enjoy it with her supper, she had nothing else to drink because Nikol didn't bring us any water or come back to check on us at all. When we explained the beer mixup, Nikol argued that it was different, which was not appreciated. Thankfully she did not charge us for it. All in all it was not an enjoyable evening after a long day. I did tip 12% because my wife had been a waitress and we know its hard work, but we should...

2023: We went here for brunch and the chef quit earlier in the week. The subbed some random person in for the chef. The server admitted to us that he did not know that a breakfast HASH required HASHBROWNS. What was brought out was a congealed egg on top of cold hashbrowns. I ordered the eggs Benny which was also ice cold. They should have said the kitchen was closed if the person cooking didn’t know how to cook!!! The Caesar was also bland and awful. The establishment should have just closed the kitchen for the day instead of serving such poor quality food. It was appreciated that we did not have to pay for our meal.

2024: We also came for St Patrick’s day and secured a table. There was a random sweater left at it with bills paid up. The server was incredibly rude to us about it. Repeatedly coming up to us telling us that we would have to give the table back if the person returned. He clearly wasn’t since bills were paid, but we repeatedly advised that we would return the table if needed. She came over to us no less than 5 times!!!! It was a very uncomfortable experience so we ended up leaving.

The other times attending here have been sub par for the price. Service is always slow, even when we were the only ones there and food is bland overall. Gave it a good shot but won’t...

St James feels like the typical international Irish Pub with the similar decor, and standard variety of Irish alcoholic beverages plus a few local and regional on tap. Food choices are extensive, catering for all preferences. I had Fish and Chips on Friday as it was there Friday special. The fish is Alexander Keith's beer battered, however the meal isn't a standout, and probably would not get it unless it was at the Friday Special price. A little oily but had a bit of a crispness to it. The vibe in the pub was relaxed, semi-professional. Service was good. They have some tables outside and a few on the main area of the pub. There is an upstairs loft dining area that is smaller than the main floor. A decent place to go for an after work unwind, or meal with family/friends/colleagues, or watch a sports game.

Stopped in on a post work walk for a pint and a quick bite to eat. As soon as I walked through the door the bar staff apologized there were no spaces at the bar because there was a Flames game on shortly and pointed out a small table by the window that was free. The Guinness was solid, the place is small enough to be friendly, big enough to have a great atmosphere. Serving staff bent over backwards to make sure all was well. Food was hot, fast and tasty. Can't fault the place. Give it a go, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
