This place makes excellent dark roast brewed coffee. And they actually know that there is a big difference between dark roast and medium-dark roast. Dark roast is now hard to find in most urban coffee shops, other than one or two major chains. Why? The owner of another shop told me that medium roast beans are less oily, therefore "easier" on the machines - so they don't have to be cleaned as often. It also costs less to buy more of the same roast, so dropping the variety of choices in roasts offered is done to cut costs. Remember when "espresso" beans used to be actual, real, dark or extra dark roast beans? Now most places (not this one thankfully) are using the same medium-roast or medium-dark roast beans to make all the coffee drinks - brewed, espresso, etc. And even if these other places sell small retail bags of dark roast beans, they won't even open a bag to make a dark roast drink. I wonder, how does it save these places money to lose a customer? All the different shops I've asked over the past year have insisted that what they are selling is "basically dark roast", and when I politely ask them what it says on the package and after they stop glaring at me for daring to question them, they eventually look at the package and it invariably says "medium roast" or "medium-dark roast". Dark roast coffee drinkers, we know very well that there is a big difference. Baristas of Calgary - MEDIUM DARK ROAST DOES NOT TASTE LIKE DARK ROAST. IT NEVER WILL. The Eau Claire Good Earth coffee shop owner is educated in the actual difference, respects his customers and the coffee itself, and has the knowledge, decency and humility to not try to shill customers into buying whatever...
Read moreI'm giving this location a 1 star for poor customer service. I've been here 3 times over the span of a couple of months.
The first time I visited, there were no other customers. The barista didn't acknowledge my presence (even though he saw me). I waited a while and called the barista out. After making my order, I asked for a lid. He told me to grab it myself (over the counter) even though there's a sign saying not to reach over. I just brushed it off thinking that he was just having a bad day.
Decided to go another time to place a bigger order. Different staff, same experience with being ignored. This time, I had asked for a lid while ordering. Upon picking up my order, I asked for a tray. The staff was clearly annoyed with this request as I saw her eyes roll. Again, I thought, okay she must also be having a bad day.
Third time I went, I placed another big order with pastries. When I placed the order, the staff appeared annoyed and kept cutting me off. I had to redo my order from the top a few times. I noticed she gave me the wrong pastry so I asked for it to be replaced. She insisted I picked that one and just grabbed the bag from me.
This place has good coffee, but I won't recommend visiting there again if the employees...
Read moreThis coffee shop is right at the bottom of the verve condo calgary downtown east side. The coffee shop has plenty of outdoor seating and indoor. The coffee shop is spacious and all types of seating including standard coffee tables and bar tables. The venue is clean always. You get the classic coffee cold brew, flat white, cappuccino, latte, mocha etc. You also can get hot chocolate. A good selection of pastry and snacks. It is a good place to read and study. At times you go to coffee shops they turn on loud music. The coffee shop is very near to the bow river. You can take a coffee and go for a nice river side walk. A good place to meet up before going out for dinner. Plenty of restaurants nearby this coffee shop in walking distance. In terms of the quality of the coffee, yes I have had better. But this place definitely rates way higher than any standard chains like tim hortons. I have gotten an upset stomach 100% of times I drank any coffee at Tim Hortons across any city in Canada. I would also rate it it slightly higher than a Starbucks in terms of quality of coffee and pastry. The coffee here does not beat Phil and Sebastians in terms of flavor and quality of coffee. Good earth coffee is definitely...
