The Upside Down Church is provocative public sculpture that is shaped like a New-England style church, only upside down.

It was designed in 1997 by Dennis Oppenheim and has been installed a couple of locations within Calgary (previously in the Ramsay neighborhood, and at 5th Street Square since 2019). It was originally called 'Device to Root Out Evil', and was purchased by Stanford University, but later deemed 'inappropriate' and never displayed there.

The view around this place is nice like the skyline and everything. The upside down church looks very interesting but I didn't like going here for a reason. This place is ok to go and spend time with someone you know. Overall this place is just not something I wouldn't stop by because I just don't really like...

It is a good place to sit outside and have a chat with your friends in square. Plus there is art installation that you can enjoy, The device to root out evil by Dennis Oppenheim. There are lots of chairs in the square which is provided for people to sit and enjoy...
