The cafeteria is going downhill. There used to be 4 functioning coffee spouts, now each time I visit at most 1 spout sometimes produces coffee. Decaf is no longer ever available. I needed decaf so I ended up paying for an empty cup. They used to staff more people at the cafeteria till, but the last 2 times I've visited, only one beleaguered worker is there for everyone to pay during the Sunday lunch rush. In the past they encouraged people to line up on both sides of the till for efficiency (and there were 2 operating tills. That's 4 lines of people). Now they discourage that sort of order... They try to have people from both wings of the food-serving area converge into one unmanaged throng, on one side of the poor sole cashier's till. It doesn't bother me much personally; I can summon the patience to wait and negotiate right-of-way with the other traffic. But you can see and feel how stressed out it's making the hungry people with their plates of food. I see other people getting irritible... today a guy approached the cashier to demand some direction on how he's supposed to join the line. He's not wrong about the complete lack of order, though of course the cashier has their hands full. People from the 2 sides don't know whether to merge like a zipper, or whether one side is supposed to yield and just walk around to the back end of the longer line on the opposite side. It's chaos. The default IKEA cafeteria setup is anxiety-provoking enough, but I know how much more impressively orderly it used to be. I used to love coming here, and I've seen how much better IKEA has done in the past. What I saw today tells me there's no longer enough management and/or resources being directed to the cafetiera. No complaints about the...
Read moreThere was never anything like this before, and here it is again. We just started going to IKEA more often not only to shop but also to grab a bite... The cafeteria on the first floor is simply a mess. Not a single clean table, trash, lots of trash on the floor and on the tables. IKEA, dear IKEA, I beg you, tidy up. This is awful. The kids' play area is half-functional. The children's chairs next to the play wall are so dirty. It's disgusting. The windows of the cafeteria are terribly dirty. It looks like people are just wiping their hands on the windows. Why are European stores always clean, but in Calgary, we can't have a clean place to eat? Please make this dreadful cafeteria as wonderful as in Sweden. Oh... A word about the food service. The person behind the counter didn't even read the order. He read the first two items, threw them on the counter for me, and calmly turned around and walked somewhere into...
Read moreWe were there between 4:00-5:00 on October 15/2025. Very few people were there. Chose our meal, got into line-up to pay. One group of 3 ladies ahead of us, 2 cashiers. The cashier on the right told us “other side please mamm” & left her station, but still lingered around. Somehow in this switch-over, another person got ahead of us, so at this point there were only 2 paying ahead of us. We were there forever, when my husband came back & asked how the other person got ahead of us? I don’t know what the 3 ladies in the first group were doing as after 10 minutes still had not been rung through. I’m a patient person but after having received our food & still not eating it after 15 minutes I said “you know what, we’re not taking this & we walked out...
