Updated review (October 28, 2021)
Let's clear this up
The owners response is completely false, off-side and a lie. To say the least, I'm completely offended. I am a BIPOC FEMALE ("Al" is short for Alannah) that was my FIRST time ever stepping foot in this coffee place. Please don't assume I am somebody else, when I'm not. After your online response to my honest review, it just shows what kind of management and company you really are. I am NOT a regular and have never ordered drip coffee. Just SHOCKED and sickened by your response. Truly, disappointing. By the way, my first review was from over 3 weeks ago and management responded to it just 19 hours ago - the timing is very off. Also, I threw out your coffee when I was already 3-4 blocks down, outside in a public garbage can. I did not complain to your staff, I did not cause any commotion. I was merely sad I wasted money on a poorly made beverage and am trying to help others with their purchase on my google review, after the fact.
To the owner: If you had a customer who did treat your staff inappropriately, I'm sorry to hear about that. You got the wrong person. I'm not that guy (I'm a girl). I'm just mad you would jump to conclusions about my review. Here's some advice to the owner, be careful what you say without knowing the facts, your response is not a good look. I hope my review sheds truth to others. I am supportive of local businesses, which is why I decided to try your coffee shop in the first place, even though when I found out your price was outrageous when I was rung through (over $8 for a small iced latte), I still paid. Your response has made me lose a bit of faith today.
First review (October 1, 2021): Spent over $8 on ONE small iced latte and ended up throwing it in the trash after three sips. It tasted awful. I should have just went to analog or...
Read moreInsanely neurotic about only promoting their own brand. I get it. You are a hipster coffee joint. People come here to write their novels and talk about deep things like the marianas trench, but come on. I am making a purchase. I am here, buying a drink. If i have a cup of tea purchased elsewhere and that is a problem to you then perhaps you need to, I don't know, sell said product purchased elsewhere. But don't tell me you only promote your own brand and then ask me to put my other drink in another cup. I am still promoting your brand by buying your drink. I am promoting a multitude of other brands just by getting up and getting dressed in the morning.
You aren't that special. You are a coffee shop. You sell coffee. They are a tea shop. They sell tea. And here's another thing, your customers will hate being approached like that. It's just rude. I will admit you were polite, but you lacked intense self awareness.
What about my box of macaroons? Should I put those in a specialty box that also has philosophy spelled incorrectly on it?
The coffee is fine but this is just another shop and the owners do not need to take on that sort of insane attitude. It does not endear you to the locals.
Coffee barista was clearly embarassed by the request too, bless her heart.
The coffee here was lovely. I won't begrudge them that. But when you are another coffee shop among a million, your customer service is very important. Chapters doesnt get antsy when someone brings a library book in to their store. Village Ice Cream isn't going to lose their minds if I walk in with a cone from My Favorite Ice Cream. Please don't try to be the Mary Sue of coffee shops. It won't end well.
To sum up, Analog coffee is one block west and they are fantastic. I would highly recommend Analog Coffee both for atmosphere and a...
Read moreThe interior is nice, service was fast and efficient & products good but the communal seating sucks due to the overwhelming number of 'laptop campers' (i.e. people that own one of the 4 person tables for hours). A few people walked in, looked around & immediately walked out so I'm not alone in my desire for just a wee bit of privacy to have a personal chat with a friend & although I don't mind friendly people sharing my space, I'm Canadian & have social anxiety about launching an open invasion of anyone else's personal space under the flag of 'communal living''. Also there is a lot of judgement floating around this place including the barista who dissed both my social anxiety & my culture in one shot. Would two person movable tables and a few single use large communal tables for the campers not be a better & more respectful community configuration? There are better shops nearby especially if you are meeting a friend to catch up and I don't know....talk..... instead of surf social media. Remember going for coffee to talk? Ya no one else in this place does either. If I want to share my space in a room full of people on laptops & smartphones who never speak I'll pop into a WeWork. However if you have a dissertation to write then this is the...
