The last couple of visits to Damascus has been disappointing. I always go for the Shish wrap. The second last time I had called my order in 25min ahead of time, and when I got there to pick it up 25 minutes later, they hadn’t even put the chicken on the grill yet. So I end up having to wait an additional 20 minutes. Once I got my order, I was super underwhelmed with the insignificant amount of chicken they put on I the wrap, and for almost $15, definitely not good value for dollar in my opinion.

Tonight, I was in a pinch and my shish wrap go to, Jerusalem Shawarma in Heritage plaza was already closed, so against my better judgment I placed an order for the shish wrap ahead of time at Damascus. Fortunately, this time, my order was almost ready when I arrived. I had already told them which topping I would like so I didn’t pay attention when they were making my wrap. I wish I would have. Once I got home, I bit into the wrap only to find out that they had put French fries into my wrap!

I called the store, and when I asked why there was French fries in my wrap, the guy said, they put them in all wraps. Even though this isn’t listed anywhere as an option or a standard ingredient for these wraps. Nor was it in my previous wrap. Regardless, why any type of food establishment would add toppings that are not listed into people’s food without prior consent makes no sense whatsoever. It makes me wonder, if they through those in there to make there wraps look bigger, because once I pulled out the fries, I realized how small the wrap is, and how bad a value for dollar this wrap is for the amount of chicken breast they put in the wraps.

My advice, avoid this place and go to Jerusalem Shawarma. For the same price, they give you way more chicken breast and the service...

I have been coming to Damascus since they first opened. I live nearby and up until recently i have had only glowing praise. I cannot give that praise anymore. They’ve squandered all the goodwill.

My last three experiences have shown that they have grown too quickly and are not able to keep up.

Just now I got a donair poutine for takeout. It used to come with veggies, now you pay extra. No biggie, I paid for them. Except when I got it home and opened it, there were no veggies in the box.

The time before that I got a wrap and a tabouli. Except when I dug into the salad, it tasted AWFUL. Not like every other time before (too numerous to count). They put something else other than the dressing on it. I’m not sure what it was but it made it inedible. It was so bad I threw it out before I got half way through.

The time before that I was at a friend’s place and we ordered delivery. A couple of us got platters and one of us got a chicken shawarma wrap. Most of us got our correct orders. Except instead of getting a schwarma wrap my friend received a plain box of dry chicken.

The time before that same friend ordered delivery they forgot his order entirely!

My advice is do not order online. Go there and watch them make your food to make sure it’s done correctly and if it’s made in the back open it up when they hand it to you to make sure it is correct. You probably should taste the salad before you leave to make sure it tastes ok. It’s very sad that this is what has to happen, but they cannot get an order right despite the food being excellent when it is made correctly. It’s not like these things are minor either they manage to do things that completely ruin the experience.

I hope they notice this review and start taking their food...

After 40 days of fasting during the lent, it's the Easter day, and it's time to eat meat again.

I wanted to try something new and different. Many of my friends advised me to try eating shawarma, and they were able to convince me about it. They suggested me to try this restaurant "Damascus fine mediterranean", so I started searching for his location on Google map.

I arrived there, and I found it a small one. Maybe only 5 people can go inside and order at the same time. "I took few pictures for the restaurant and the menu". After that, I chose one of the plates, and they said that it will be ready after 10 minutes. Actually, they were honest, and it took only that time.

It cost 14,99$, and they put it in a pack then in plastic bag with a couple of tissues. "I attached pictures of the plastic bag and pack".

After I arrived home, I opened the plastic bag and took out the tissues, but didn't find any cutlery even though there was a plate of salad in the pack. Anyways, I was able to use one of the forks in my home, but if I wanted to eat it in a park, then I wouldn't be able to eat the salad.

After that, I opened the pack, and the view was amazing. "I attached a picture of it". The fries were perfect and shawarma wraps as well. I prefer if there was more salt, but it's fine. The pickles were great too. The salad was good but not like everything else in the pack.

Finally, I ate everything in that pack, and it was a great experience. Thank you guys for this great Easter lunch.

As an update today 18th June 2025: I ordered the chicken shawarma platter and it was great even though it cost more nowadays. Further more, they changed platter's boxes to a...

My wife and I moved to Calgary near 17th ave right before the pandemic hit. Since then we've given many restaurants a chance in the downtown area... but the one we found ourselves going back to, over and over again, week after week? Damascus. Forget the bougie, overrated, overpriced pizzerias and taquerias around the block that people flock to only to show off their clothes and leave with half-empty stomachs. You want some good shawarma and a lot of it? Damascus. Feel like staying in and getting delivery on friday nights but nothing good comes to mind? Damascus. This restaurant was one of our staples throughout the entire pandemic. My vegetarian wife would get the falafel platter while I would go for their classic beef donair platter or wrap. There wasn't one visit to this place that left us disappointed. They are consistent in quality, quantity, and fair price. Sounds simple but most restaurants plain suck at this. I also forgot to mention the friendly staff that work there. One day we became "the regulars" and they started sneaking desserts into our takeouts. Almost always they were busy working through backed orders but made sure we felt welcome everytime we went in. And by the time we were about to leave the city last month we made sure to say goodbye in person bc it felt right - these folks made the pandemic more tolerable, more delicious even.

First thing to note - the service here is awesome. Friendly staff, funny and yet straight to the point to help you with your order. I would highly recommend the platters opposed to a wrap if you're hungry. The wraps come in two sizes (regular and large) and starts at $10 meanwhile the platter start at $13. The regular size wrap felt more of a small appetite type of meal and a tad short of balanced content. Everything (both wrap and also platters) get particularly portioned out in terms of toppings (salad, picked vegetables, sauce). I feel that's where it fell a little short compared to some other places that just plop on a bunch of this and that. BUT where quantity didn't fully suffice, the protein quality here is very good - not dry chicken (based on the few times I've gone) and it's moist + non fatty. They have the option of grilling the onions and tomatoes which I think is a great option. The space overall, the team there ensure its well kept and organized ! The baklava also - would recommend, a perfect balance of sweetness and flaky without being entirely drenched/soggy.
