This is the by far my worst dining experience in my whole life because of the racial discrimination that we experienced. It was April 12th at 6:15pm, snowy evening, me and friend dined in here, to give you a better description-we were Filipinos, I have a brown complexion and my friend has the Chinese look (because she really is a Chinese). I honestly don’t find it necessary to describe how we looked but that’s how this restaurant made us feel. Discriminated by our colour, profiled from head to toe. We got in there earlier than 6:15pm, standing at the door as we waited to be assisted. We were there for 3-5 minutes, one of the servers who’s talking to another server looked at us, so I thought she would go to us, I was wrong. We waited for a couple minutes (take note we were waiting there like an idiot as if we do not have a reservation also please note we are the only ones waiting there). Finally a tall white skinny and blonde guy came to us, directed us to our seats already. We weren’t even completely seated yet and he started saying these words “There’s a reservation at 8 pm here” - I was like “sorry?” And he said “standard seating time 2 hours”. Okay first you made us wait then now you’re telling it from the get-go we can stay longer. First and foremost, we know that. We’ve travelled the world already and exactly know that. They treated us like ignorants. I didn’t know that I will be treated like this ever, just because we are not “white/western” come on. We speak fluent English and waited patiently for them. So finally, when we’re about to order they made us wait for another 15-20 minutes to give our order, we were even contemplating to get out of the restaurant. I chose this restaurant because of a great reviews, to celebrate my friend’s birthday. They do have very poor service, passing us by getting our plates (not even completely emptied yet) without asking us. No communication. Excuse me, we speak English and we can understand it. I will never go back to this restaurant. Too bad, food was great but everyone in this restaurant...
Read moreI was excited to try this place out, hearing good things about it from a few friends. My partner and I decided to go out for a nice dinner last minute and since it was around 7pm on a Friday, we were totally prepared to be told they were booked for the rest of the night. But the host took our name and added us to the waitlist and told it might would be 45min-1 hour wait. We were called for our waitlist time, and came back an hour later, and the host seated us at our table. But when we were sat our table (along the wall to the left when you walk in), it seemed like we were between two server's sections. We had one server serving the table to my left and another serving the table to my right. I don't know if this was an issue with the host seating us between sections, but neither server paid any attention to us between serving their other tables, it seemed like they were both avoiding any contact with us whatsover, so we were ignored for 15 minutes. Essentially, both servers seemed to be like "not my problem" in regards to our table. After another 10 minutes of just sitting, waiting, with no service, we just decided to leave. We didn't flag any staff down or try to follow up with the host because at that point we felt like an inconvenience or another server's "problem" as clearly nobody wanted to help us. You would think maybe somebody would notice we were sitting there for 25 minutes without service (I don't even know why we stayed that long hoping we would get helped) and ask if had been served yet, but I think that nobody cared. We told co-workers about our experience and they were shocked to hear it, which makes me believe maybe it was just an off night, but a night that has probably turned us off from ever coming here again regardless. Can't even say if the food is good here bc we didn't even get the chance to try it lol. We went to Ten Foot Henry next door and were sat at the bar almost immediately, and the service and food there was wonderful, so at least we still got a good date out of that night, which at one point...
Read moreAs a couple who moved out of Calgary in 2022, we were excited to try this “new” place in the city. We sat at the bar, which was welcoming and had exceptional service. The cocktail menu was short but the bartender was very creative and gave great advice on drinks. The menu was “small” but impactful- exactly how you want it! We ordered the anchovy toast and tartare to start, then followed up with the salmon, rigatoni, and asparagus for our mains. We followed it up with the carrot cake for dessert. We started our meal with an oyster and cavier each which was the perfect start- highly recommend! The tartare was great- probably a wonderful “first time” tartare for some as the waitress encouraged us to mix everything together with the fat-based sauce/aioli on the bottom. As a tartare lover, I actually felt missing it was too fat-heavy and you lost the beef within the strong flavours of the garnishes and the fat. However, it was still a wonderful tartare! The anchovy toast was good, and probably a wonderful experience for someone who has never had it. I think we were expecting something similar to anchovy toast we had had before and it was not similar and didn’t deliver the umami punch as expected. But there was freshness and flavour in the dish which made it easy to eat. The salmon was delicious, cooked rare-medium rare as a heads up for non seafood-lovers. The pistachios and edamame were a beautiful pairing. The rigatoni was probably my favorite dish of the night- it has a wonderful depth of flavour and was rich without being heavy. Asparagus was also delicious with the mushrooms and buerre blanc. Carrot cake to end was good- very classic, not sweet, and leaned heavily on the warm spices it should. The carrot cake caramel on the bottom was to die for! Overall the ambience, service, and food was 10/10 and we...
