I really like this Korean bakery. I didn't notice it at first because of where it's located. It's not something I would have seen unless I went looking for it. But when I went in for the first time, I was thinking of getting 1 thing to try. I ended up spending double digits, now it's like that every time. So I visit on occasion, as a treat...
You can tell it's authentic because they're actually Korean employees who speak Korean with each other. 😊
The first thing I noticed are the croissants, OMG. There are like 20 layers to them and you can see them. The texture is very fluffy and airy. That's why croissants take 3 days to make and 2 minutes to eat. Not a fair trade, but that's why they cost like $3 a piece for the good stuff like this!!!
French macarons, another work of art that takes 3 days to make and 0.2 seconds to eat. I was never really a macaron person. But the macarons they have here, made me a macaron person. The quality is so much better, they use real filling for the center. It's nothing like the cheap stuff from the grocery store. They recently changed some of the flavors, added some new ones and they look thicker.
If you haven't been in before, I recommend going to give it a try at least once. Try to go early or most of the good stuff will be sold out when you get there, it has happened to me when I went in the late evening like a couple hours before closing.
This is their newest location and it's only a year old, so it really is...
Read moreWhen I saw the sign for Wow Bakery while leaving Chinook mall, I beelined to check it out. So glad I did. I bought pretty much each of the buns they had in the middle fridge (mochi buns, green tea bun, savory buns), a pack of Rusk cookies and their matcha loaf. Everything is absolutely delicious. I'm used to buying fresh baked goods in display cases (from Chinese bakeries!) so a bit skeptical buying buns in packaging, but understand that is more sanitary especially in these times AND they are still extremely fresh.
Haven't tried everything I bought (let's just say I spent way more than anyone should, buying baking for a household of 2...) but so far my favourites are the Mochi Cream Cheese bun (no mochi inside but I assume the mochi describes the chewy texture of the bun!) and the rusk cookies (to me, like a super buttery and crispy biscotti, but more delicious and less dense and dry). The matcha loaf is super tasty lightly toasted with a little bit of butter on top.
This is my new favourite bakery, so glad to have more Asian style bakeries in the city without having to venture to Chinatown. Will come back again and again, and maybe check out their delivery option...
Read more3rd Review I promise you the service terrible, my friend when here before they had their shift. My friend tipped 20%; and regretted it; they ignore him immediately afterwards even when there were no other customers.
Compare the service to any other food place, that doesn't ask you to tip; the Service Castella, Starbucks, A&W, subway, Nam, Opa will always have nice service compare to this place.
2nd Review The staff always get so upset with customer just being at this location.
If you want to pick lunch before work, they be annoyed. But DO NOT actually buy a cake from the location, they try to avoid heat up items a for the customers.
Macleod Plaza is the better place to order a cake as they double check your order.
Marda Loop is good too but they won't double check anything.
I would be willing to change this location atmosphere and service scores, if the workers become less upset.
1st. review Annoying & Lazy staff; great bake goods.
Great baked good; recommend the cakes especially.
The service is poor, they ignore you if you want things in separate bags but they notice if you...
