My wife and I went to Hon's with some of our family and friends on Christmas day for lunch. This has been an annual tradition. We ordered a dish that had Shanghai stir fried noodles and asked to substitute for cod instead of beef. The waitress said no problem, and said the sauce would be on the bottom but nothing about it not being stir fried. When the dish arrived it was not stir fried but boiled, flavorless and overall really disgusting. Not at all what we had ordered. We asked the waitress Vivian if we could have it stir fried, and she said no because it would stick to the pan. She also said something about soft noodles and sauce which we didn't quite understand as she made no effort to communicate properly and seemed intent on just brushing us off. We explained politely that it was not what we had wanted and that we didn't want it, to which she said too bad, and she would not do anything about it. I asked to speak with the manager, whose name was Mindy. Mindy said the same thing as the waitress, that we were told it was a soft noodle (which we were not told). I re-iterated that we did not understand that it would be a completely different dish that was not even stir fried and that wasn't explained to us. Now this all may seem kind of petty, and I agree it is, but the Manager was very rude and dismissive in her tone, and reluctant to do anything what-so-ever to re-mediate the situation. In fact she actually said it would be a waste and she would lose money if she did anything. She was speaking loudly and it was embarrassing with our friends and family there. Other guests were looking over and staring wondering what the fuss was about. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I could not believe that a restaurant manager would behave this way. She was a rude, unsympathetic creature who had no customer service sensitivity or business sense. My wife was very upset with being talked to in that manner, and I spoke to the manager afterwards and asked that she apologize to my wife, to which she refused and started talking about noodles again. We will never go back to this place again. I would not recommend that anyone else support this place either if this type of customer service is something...
Read moreMy family has been going to Hon's for the last 20 years and have loved their food. We are vegetarian, and they make any dish on the menu vegetarian-friendly. However, we recently had a very negative experience. We ordered take-out and as per usual, asked everything to be made vegetarian. We picked up the order and when we got home, we opened up the sweet and sour pork and realized it wasn't tofu as it looked different and then when we tasted it, we confirmed it was real pork. We called the restaurant and they agreed to deliver the vegetarian pork dish but we would have to give them back the original pork they gave us. When the delivery guy arrived, he gave us the new dish then immediately opened the old one and started saying how we ate so much of it and how it wasn't real pork (without a mask on as well). We tried explaining how there were a couple missing as we had each tried one to taste test it and how we know it is real pork but he was quite aggressive and kept repeating "it's not real pork" and wouldn't let us speak. He then said he cannot give us the new dish as the original one is vegetarian. He took back the vegetarian pork he had brought and drove away. We were extremely frustrated and when we called the following day, it took me 4 times calling Hon's and explaining the situation before I was able to speak to a manager, who then told me all they could do is refund me for the dish, IF I brought the pork dish back to the restaurant (it was 3 days later at this point) and they then determined it was real pork. I was shocked at how they still insisted on fact-checking me and it was only once I told them we have been loyal customers who were never returning and that I would write this review, that the manager offered to put credit on my account and finally gave an apology as well. Needless to say, we will not...
Read moreI went to Hon’s Wun-Tun House yesterday for the first time in about a year or two. I was very disappointed and surprised when I had realized the flavour of the food had gone downhill. I used to love Hons cause they used to have Good portions and amazing flavour for a good price however, things have turned for the worse recently and now even the cheaper TNT meals you can get at the mall tastes better than the food on this day.
The wonton soup was super salty and tasted very fishy which i’ve never experienced in a wonton soup before (i love wonton soup so that was surprising that it tasted so wierd). I also ordered the beef and brocoli crispy Chow Mein, which is no longer on their menu but the lady said they could make it which is why I gave them a high rating for the service. The chow mein (the whole thing including the beef) tasted a bit wrong like if it shouldn’t be eaten. Not sure how to describe the flavour but it just tasted off and wrong to eat. It was not the flavour I had known and loved hons for, instead it tasted wierd. I am incredibly disappointed that one of my previous favourite chinese food spots no longer have good flavour and have gone downhill. We did order other things as well and honestly the only thing i liked from this whole meal is the rice.
I will be on the search for better chinese food restaurants because i’m so sad and disappointed that this one won’t hold up to a good standard anymore. The service was really good however and they were very quick, efficient and kind so good job on the service. It was the food that was a big turn off. I hope they are able to bring back their old good flavour they used to have in their food and improve on the quality...
