Huge portions for price, but not very good

I feel a little conflicted about Sourdough Joe's. We went at 4:30pm, so before the dinner rush and were greeted and seated promptly by friendly waitstaff. We ordered the 2 piece cod fish and chips and Yukon gold poutine, which comes with ham, mushrooms, mozzarella, and gravy. It was a long wait for having very few customers, but when the food did come, it was blazing hot and there was plenty of it. We were hungry, but if we'd known how huge the servings were, we probably would have ordered only one dish.

The fish was pretty good. One piece was about the size of 2 normal sized pieces. The fries were greasy and not crispy. The coleslaw was strangely sweet, almost dessert-like, as was the tartar sauce.

The poutine was just strange. The mushrooms were whole and appeared to be raw. Again, massive enough to feed two people with average appetites, but too salty and greasy to be very tasty.

I felt bad for the waitstaff. Our lady said she was actually a carpenter just helping out because the owner was having a hard time finding anyone. She...

I was so happy we decided on Sourdough Joe's for something to eat! I had the fish & chips. They had 3 options for fish: cod, halibut & salmon. They were out of halibut, so I opted for salmon & am I ever glad I did! It was AMAZING! It was so good we decided to go there 2 more times during our 5 day visit to Dawson City. We went back another day with the grandchildren (ages 4 & 2) & we got them the chicken fingers. One order was more than enough for the 2 kids. We also ordered a caesar salad, which was pretty good! The 3rd time we stopped there, I HAD to get the salmon again. The staff was pleasant, the service was good & it is kid friendly. There is lots of seating both inside & out. The washrooms were clean. I didn't really check out the parking situation, though. We were walking each time we visited the restaurant. It's DEFINITELY worth eating here! Good size portions. Speedy service,...

Don't waste your time. Advertisement out front said they offered the Best Fish and Chips in town. They fail to tell us until we were seated that they have no desserts, shrimp, steak, halibut, or calamari and this isn't something that happened just today; according to the waitress they've been out of these items for weeks. What we finally did order was tasteless and awful expensive. We had been told to expect a GREAT time in Dawson City. Must be another Dawson City - everyone was rude, most of the places we visited were closed (1600 on a Monday), and what shops were open were short on stock. I know this is a seasonal town, but we saw several full tourist buses come into town. I can only hope those folks demanded...

Local eats wirh several neat options as well as Yukon/ BC brews. We chose their outdoor patio as the weather was sunny 🌞. Brews nice and cold. Salmon eats (one dish fried and one grilled) were generous. They hit the spot with zero leftovers! Seive fast and friendly.
