People of Edmonton—yesterday was an auspicious day, as it was the first day that you can get a gluten-free Bánh mì in Edmonton! We no longer have to drive all the way to Calgary to get one! If you know me you know Vietnamese has always been my favourite kind of food and I can talk about Vietnamese cuisine for over an hour.
Bánh mì is one of the greatest creations of cultural exchange ever brought into being. The Bánh mì as we know it today came to be in the 1950’s and came into existence from combining French and Vietnamese culinary techniques.
As soon as I saw Bánh Mì Day on Jasper Ave and 117 Street announce this creation, I knew immediately what I was having for dinner.
As a Celiac I have pretty low standards for bread to be honest. I simp for Subway even though their bread isn’t all that great. Straight up, I just like to be included by sandwich shops after spending the majority of my life not getting to eat in them.
I was blown away by how high quality the gluten-free bread is here! The fillings were outstanding as well—it was heavenly to sit and look out at Jasper Avenue while tasting some of the best flavour combinations Vietnam has to offer.
They have several flavours to try: -OG (No Pate) -Beef/ Chicken Sate -Chicken/ Tofu Lemongrass -Grilled Chicken Five Spice Pork Belly -Vegan Tofu Lemongrass
I personally went and thanked the owner for her creation after eating my first Bánh MÌ there. She was so happy and I am too. Up until this point the only place in Alberta to get one is Pho City in downtown Calgary.
I highly recommend checking out Bánh MÌ Day on Jasper Avenue—I’m going back today and I’m sure I’ll be going there all the time this spring and summer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Read moreSuper excited for there to be a yummy banh mi place so close to my place and downtown. Went and finally got to check out Banh Mi Day today after hearing about it from a couple of friends. Everyone had good things to say about it and I was excited as I haven't found a banh mi place in Edmonton that I really liked aside from Banh Mi Nhon Hoa (northside) but that isn't really convenient for me at all. I went in today around noon and ordered 2 chicken sate banh mi subs and salad rolls. I was greeted promptly and both workers were super friendly - later found out it was the owner and her daughter in law. Once I got home and got all settled in for my lunch, I was absolutely NOT disappointed. The bread for the banh mi is made fresh by the owners so the bread is delicious and moist. It didn't cut my mouth like some of the other places I have had subs from. The veggies were great and fresh and the sate chicken was nice and peanuty. The salad rolls were also really fresh and I could tell the peanut sauce for them were homemade. I can't wait to try more things from Banh Mi Day. I have also heard great things about their pho and onion cakes so those are next!! So excited for more food from...
Read moreWhen we first walked in, I saw that it was a cute and small mom and pop shop. Even before making it inside, it smelled really good from the outside like meat was cooking. Our orders were taken quickly. We sat on the high chairs with counters against the windows. I ordered the Vegan Chicken Banh Mi and my boyfriend ordered the Korean BBQ Banh Mi.
The Vegan Chicken Banh Mi was really good. I loved the pickled veggies and the vegan chicken was flavorful. Even the texture was good too. The bread was flaky and every bite tasted so fresh. The sauce complimented all the ingredients and the bread very well. Also I'm so impressed at how fresh the bread is too. While we were waiting for our orders, we took a peek and saw fresh bread being made and placed in the oven.
The Korean BBQ Banh Mi was very delicious, I kept taking extra bites from my boyfriend's banh mi lol. The beef in the banh mi was tasty. I know that this is a seasonal banh mi but I hope that when I come back it will still be on the menu. Honestly, this is now my standard that I will compare every banh mi I'll ever eat in the future. I know that if I'm ever disappointed in banh mi's, I know where to go that meets my...
