3.5 Star Food, 1 Star Customer Satisfaction !!!! Used to be my favorite ramen place in South Edmonton but one bad experience will probably never bring me back again.
We were the first customers to go into an empty restaurant on a weekend morning. As my partner was recovering from a major surgery, we wanted a slightly bigger table this time, so they could sit more comfortably and have an easier time getting in and out.
But the staff/owner who greeted us strongly refused and insisted on giving us one of their smaller tables. Their reason was that since it was the weekend they “COULD” get really busy so the bigger tables were left aside “just in case” bigger groups “might come in later that day."
But at that time the entire restaurant was completely empty, and we probably didn’t need 2 hours to eat a bowl of ramen. So it was a bit shocking to see them prioritize seating for potential customers who might not even come in on a snowy day, over their first customers who were literally in the store and ready to eat.
I would understand if the restaurant was completely packed with a massive lineup outside or reservations, but the funny thing was that their “lunch rush” never came that day, and the table they didn’t want us to sit at wasn’t even occupied for our entire meal. Karma much :)
As a business owner, I don’t think this is the ideal way to treat a long-time customer in an empty restaurant, recovering from major surgery. From afar, it seems like they are very short-sighted prioritizing not pissing off larger groups who didn’t even come in over the customers who came in super early with a simple request.
The saying is true, “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and [one moment] to ruin it.”
For all my future ramen eats, I don’t mind handing money over to a place with less superior food, especially if their customer service satisfaction is 1000...
Read moreI went to Nomiya on the south side with my friend. I ordered the tonkutsu deluxe. The Aji fry and oyster fry included tasted extremely fishy, I am pretty sure it had gone bad. The oyster was a small piece so I had eaten it after I tasted the fishyness. I wish I was wrong, I only had one bite of the Aji fry. I told the waitress about this, she asked if I wanted anything to replace it, I said I am all good since I lost my appetite. She insisted on me getting a replacement so I had the chicken karage. She took away the Aji fry, then came back from the kitchen told me they have smelled it and it didn’t go bad, it was because of the type of the fish. I am not sure how I am supposed to react to that. I grew up in a city by the ocean, I know it went bad, I had tasted it too. I am not sure what was the purpose of coming back and telling me I was wrong, I am not here lying to you just to get to pieces of chicken in replacement. I have never had an experience like this before. It was very poorly handled by the restaurant and I will not be recommending this to anyone. If you have used ingredient that’s not fresh, admit it and genuinely apologize for it. Not to gaslight your customer and tell them they are wrong. I worked in the service industry before and would have never done that. It was an...
Read moreHands down the best Japanese restaraunt in Edmonton (and Alberta from my experience). Both Nomiya locations in Edmonton are incredible, but I give a slight edge to the Calgary Trail location as I find the Sushi to be truly phenomenal here. It's incredibly rare to find a Japanese restaraunt that has both fantastic Sushi and amazing Ramen (so far Nomiya is the only contender) but somehow they top the list for both.
My personal recommendations are the Tan Tan, Spicy Miso, and Black Garlic Ramen. The noodles are made in house - they're thick, tasty and convey the flavor of the Ramen perfectly. The broth is rich and satisfying, and the meat is plentiful. They're eggs are a must-try, and can be added to any Ramen dish.
For Sushi, the Dragon Rolls are by far my favorite. They add a spicy mayo and flame broil the Sushi at your table (a fun experience) then top it off with fish eggs. They add plenty of Wasabi on the side, and some ginger slices to clear the palate. Every plate of Sushi is fresh and delicious, you really can't go wrong with any option - California Rolls, Dynamite Rolls, Ninja Rolls, they're all incredible.
The service is top tier, the atmosphere is relaxing and the food is unreal. Suffice to say, this is a must-try restaurant...
