I've been to many sushi restaurants across the country and this place was one of the very worst I've been to. The service was great; the waitress was friendly and attentive. It was the food that I had problems with. Seemed like the place is owned and ran by Chinese, which is no problem as long as they know their Japanese food. Sadly, it wasn't the case. Udon did not taste like udon, made with some sort of seafood broth and no hint of tsuyu. It wasn't horrible but when I order udon, I expect to taste udon, not some random broth they created. For sushi, first of all, way to much rice under each fish. The worst of all was that the rice wasn't properly marinated so it almost tasted like I was eating sashimi with just a regular bowl of unmarinated sticky rice right out of the rice cooker. Terrible! I one of the other many things I ordered was a sushi combo boat for $28.99. The menu did not say much on what is included. When it came out, I was shocked. Basically it consisted of just a couple of salmon and tuna sushi, 1 surf clam, 1 octopus, 1 inari, 1 tamago, 1 crab meet and a tiny salmon/cucumber maki (not sure why maki was part of "sushi" combo). I'm almost so sure that if I order those individually from other proper sushi restaurant, I can get them in better quality for a cheaper price. We still couldn't finish everything because of the horrible taste of sushi made with improperly marinated rice. Lastly, amongst things I ordered was that sushi boat and a Chirashi bowl which normally come with at least a bowl of miso soup in other restaurants. Not this place. I spent about 90 bucks believing the reviews here that this restaurant is great. I'm really not sure what I paid...
Read moreHold onto your chopsticks, because I've got a love story to tell you about I Love Sushi! Because I sure did at I Love Sushi! This place had me at "hello" with their cute name and adorable sushi-themed decor. The wait staff was so friendly and welcoming that I almost forgot I was there to eat and wanted to invite all the staff out for karaoke. But then the snapper sashimi arrived, and I was instantly reminded of why I was there - to stuff my face with deliciousness.
But of course, the real star of the show was the sushi itself. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the snapper sashimi was one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was so fresh and tender that it practically melted in my mouth. And the presentation was stunning - I almost didn't want to ruin it by eating it!
And don't even get me started on the rolls. The spicy tuna was so good that I wanted to marry it, and the dragon roll was so beautiful that I wanted to Instagram it before I ate it. But of course, I ate it anyway because I have no self-control.
I Love Sushi is a total gem. The wait staff is amazing, the food is incredible, and the atmosphere is just so darn cute. I can't wait to come back and try everything on the menu. Just be warned - once you try the snapper sashimi, you'll be...
Read moreI have seen this cute little sushi nook establishment for years while walking on Jasper but have never thought to stop by until a friend recommended it.
From the outside I love Sushi looks like it should be bigger but once you walk in, it's actually just a cute little ~30 person establishment with what looks like a small kitchen and bar. There are some big windows so you can people watch while you enjoy your sushi fix. Staff was friendly and attentive as well. Since it's a small place, I did note there was no AC so it made the venue a little hot and stuffy. The restaurant did have a door propped open to try and help the heat but it was still quite warm.
We each ordered a bento, a vegetarian bento and a tempura bento. Both were good and satisfied our sushi craving but I don't know if I think it was anything spectacular about it that would pull us back. I did find the prices of I love sushi to be more acceptable than some other places. I love sushi was definitely more affordable than somewhere such as Mikado.
If you love sushi but find it hard to afford, then I would recommend I Love Sushi. The quality isn't as good as some other places but it's affordable...
