I have no idea how it happened, but this place has become my own personal Cheers. The food was always good but the new revamped menu took it to great, and whether packed to the gills for a karaoke night/hockey game or a hanging with a handful of regulars on a chill winter sunday, the atmosphere is guaranteed to feel like your favorite pair of pajama pants. The staff here do everything thing they can to make you feel at home (and sometimes like they're hosting a house party), and you really can't ask for more. I've been coming here for almost two years and this has easily become my favorite ever bar. If you're looking for the perfect downtown hole in the wall, come see Dez and Bradon at the Gardens.

My review for Hawkeyes was a 5 star, however, The Gardens YEG is so-so. The Good: They have all the Oilers games playing with sound on and tonnes of TVs and the games they have are decent. The game day burger was excellent value and taste. Our server Liz was attentive and not overbearing. The Bad: The fries and our wings were terrible. Probably the most dried out wings I have ever had. It was fairly busy on an Oilers game night so we didn't even mention the wings to our server. Just probably only go back for the drinks and Oilers games. Review of Hawkeyes: Love this "hole in a wall"! Food is exceptionally inexpensive and fairly good. I recommend the Wor Wonton soup!

What I can say is the food was exactly what I was hoping for after a long drive, hotel check in and walking to the Roger’s place then down to this place. But it was just what the doctor wanted ordered. Is it a dive bar? Yes, was the performer top tier? No, did it have a smell? Yes, the bathrooms had full size doors which provides more privacy if desired, they also have games, the racing one and buck hunter being my personal favs. One of the machines ate our money and they returned our two dollars. If you’re hungry and need substance, eat the food!!! Absolutely perfect the night of Katy Perry.

Three stars, but don't let that fool you. This place is borderline dive bar with some strong things going for it. A hidden gem, if you will. Great atmosphere. Small little hole in the wall place. Eclectic mix of downtown professionals and almost street people. Some great karaoke and games to entertain yourself with. Friendly staff. Service is somewhat variable, but not bad. Food is also not gourmet but hits the spot after hunger kicks in after a few drinks. Would suggest this place as a good evening escape for those that are near. Inexpensive and functional bars or pubs like this are disappearing and hard to find. Use this resource or it will be gone. Also, it is next door to many more pubs, clubs, entertainment, and music venues. So, take advantage of it's location. Ample paid parking is nearby and it's not in the sketchiest or most worrisome part of the downtown. Truly, if you want to live and live affordably... not every night out should be at a five star pub. This place has a place and... it could...

Bartender was very unprofessional. Did not acknowledge me until after he tended to the party next to me at the bar although I was there before. I ordered food to go and he was agitated so I felt pressured to order a beverage since I was sitting at the bar. My partner and friend came by while I was waiting so we moved to a table so we had room to sit. I went up to tell the bartender I had moved. He completely dismissed me even though I had already paid for my drink and food. Horrible experience with his demeanor. We talked to the manager who took the side of the bartender because he’d known him for 20 years as he stated. Terrible experience. Unfortunate since we go there weekly....
