I came in to Top Donair to buy some lunch for a homeless person sitting outside. I was 2nd or 3rd in line, and I overheard the customers have issues with the sign. I figured out the sign before I heard the other customers, and I just knew that it probably throws loads of people off.
This sign is TERRIBLE. Each "box" on the sign has a number with the picture of the donair, along with fries & pop. But the prices in each box is JUST for the donair. And near the top/middle it tells you that you have to pay $4 to make it a combo....and the gentlemen in front of me thought that the price in each box is for the combination of items that are shown in each box.
I spoke to the polite woman and asked her if she gets that problem a lot from her customers, and she says it happens many times a day.
I go to the Top on 144 Ave & 87 st, and their signage is not like that at all. It's an older location, but at least their signs aren't confusing. A newer location on a busy part of Jasper Ave should be more on-top of these things.
The homeless gentleman enjoyed your regular beef donair &...

I had frequented this restaurant since the first day it opened and always had a pleasant experience. Donairs were on the generous side, for the price, and everything inside was absolutely fresh. Location was clean and well maintained.
After a few months passed, as with any business, prices were adjusted along with portions. That is perfectly acceptable and understandable. But the quality of donair took a dive along with the maintenance of their equipment, as evident from my introduction. Needless to say, I ended up biting down on a 1 inch black bolt and promptly headed to the cashier to show my discovery. She called over one of the cooks on the line for him to come over and take a look at the bolt, look at me and then back at the bolt, then say sorry. That's it. I sat back down, waited 10 minutes to see if anyone would come by out of concern but no one came. So I left and will...
Read moreTop Donair provides a good donair in a convenient location, at competitive prices. I'm happy to see such an area of Jasper Ave get a good lunch option like Top Donair.
The fries are salted with seasoning salt, which is definitely a nice touch. I'm not the biggest fan of crinkle-cut as it tends to be less crispy than shoestring cut fries, but no matter. The meat lacks a tad bit in spice, and the veggies seem a little less than fresh, which holds Top Donair back from hitting with the best donair spots in Edmonton. However, given the location, I really can't complain.
Interestingly, Top Donair's large size is lengthier while being skinnier than most other places' large donairs. While one might think this would change the dynamic of the meat-to-veggies ratio, Top Donair makes very much a meat-focused donair, seemingly by packing the meat tight, and limiting the amount of veggies put in. This may be a good or bad thing depending on...
