I have been going to Van Loc for a number of years now. The food is always perfect. If you have never had a vietnamese sub, you should start with Van Loc. The bread is a perfect baguette. Crispy and flakey on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. They fill that bread with cold cuts known and lesser known. One cannot have a sub without some vegetables. They use cucumber and carrot as well as a couple of pieces of jalapeno. A touch of cilantro rounds out the experience. So delicious and very reasonably priced. When I leave there I have a bag of subs for the price of one Subway sub. I will cross the city in order to get a couple of their subs and I would be there more but their hours of operation are short. My only complaint about Van Loc is it is not open long enough for me to eat there every day. Which is a good thing for my waist line. When you are feeling like a change in you usual food routine, go to Van Loc and get two or three subs. I recommend...
Read moreI have had my fair share of Viet subs. It has been a staple throughout my childhood. This is by far the best Viet sub place I’ve ever eaten at.
My friend recommended the McDavid which I initially found to be corny (calling Vietnamese food anything not Vietnamese), but quickly changed my mind after I took my first bite.
The bread was fresh and toasted perfectly, giving that perfect crunch on the outside while being soft and tender inside. The meat was hot, flavourful, and saucy. The veggies were lightly pickled and refreshingly cut through the rich flavours of the sauce.
I never thought I would go out of my way to write a review about a Viet sub. I am craving one of these things, and have been ranting and raving about this sub since I’ve consumed it yesterday. I didn’t take a picture cause I ate the thing too damn fast.
This sub is worthy of being named after the best hockey player in the...
Read moreNew ownership made changes, some good but many worse. The good includes taking credit card and having well made Vietnamese iced coffee. I liked their enthusiasm and new dine in space
However, the quality and quantity of the bahn mi have decreased noticeably, while the price have gone up. First, every bite included copious amounts of shredded carrot that lacked the crunch and freshness it used to and had no flavour. Second, they changed the way they cut cucumber which also makes for less texture and crunch. Third, I think they toasted their bread less because it was less golden and softer than it used to be. Lastly, the amount of meat per bite especially towards the ends was lacking. It also may be my imagination but the pate was grainier than it used to be.
I would still come back for a bahn mi once in a while but I miss what it used to be. Also, miss the old ladies behind...
